Thompson -- Roy Dewitt Thompson Jr., 81, passed away October 27, 1999 in Wichita Falls, TX. He was a 33 year resident of Iowa Park, TX. Mr. Thompson was born July 11, 1918 in Vernon, TX. He served as President of the Board of Directors of Wichita Valley Water Corporation, served on the North Texas Regional Planning Board, the Wichita Valley Farms Community House, and was a member of the Texas Farm Bureau. He was very instrumental in getting the first van for the Friendly Door Senior Citizens Center in Iowa Park, and was very active in community activities. He served in the U.S. Army as a Major and as Communications Officer for the 96th Infantry Division during World War II. He was active in his church, serving in various offices. He and Ernestine Pfluger were married on December 24, 1941 in Pflugerville, TX. She preceded him in death on December 23, 1980. He had formerly lived in Albuquerque for 20 years. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Juanita Thompson of Iowa Park, TX; sons, Roy D. Thompson III of Hermitage, TN, David L. Thompson of Roswell, NM, Gene E. Thompson of Iowa Park, TX; daughters, Marilyn Cockrum of Iowa Park, TX, Carol Flatt of Iowa Park, TX; sister, Pat Aulds of Iowa Park, TX; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be 2:30 p.m., Saturday, October 30, 1999, at Dutton Funeral Home, with Rev. Jarrell Kuykendall and Rev. Robert Mitchell, officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park, TX. Memorial may be made to Faith Mission, 1300 Travis St., Wichita Falls, TX 76301.
