Marken -- Mary Esther Grzelachowski Marken passed away at 5:10 a.m., Monday, October 11, 1999. Mrs. Marken was born January 31, 1912 in Santa Rosa, NM. Except for 25 years in Chula Vista, CA and a brief period of her youth in Fairbo, MN, she lived all of her life in New Mexico. Most of her years in New Mexico were spent in either Albuquerque or Los Alamos. The years in Los Alamos with her now deceased husband, Lawrence Gerald Marken included the spring and summer of 1945 when the final research and testing of the Manhattan Project were being conducted. Mrs. Marken is survived by two sons, Lawrence Gerald Marken Jr. and Charles Robert Marken of Albuquerque; and one daughter, Angeline Marken Kinnaman, currently residing in Rawlins, WY. Charles Grzelachowski, a brother, and Mrs. Marken's sole surviving sibling, lives in Fort Worth, TX. A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Marken will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 14 at 2:00 p.m.
