Kotur -- Melvin M. Kotur, 82, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 16 years, passed away on Monday, October 11, 1999. Melvin was born December 26, 1916, the son of Rade and Milka Yaich Kotur in Steubenville, Ohio. He had worked for Wheeling Pittsburg Steel Co. for 37 years before retiring. He was a proud member of local union 1190, where he was active in various committees. His leadership lead to the establishment of a scholarship program between the University of Steubenville and local 1190. He served in the US Army during WWII. Melvin was preceded in death by one brother, George Kotur and one sister, Mary Wise. He was a beloved and devoted husband to his wife of 58 years, Hilda of Rio Rancho; six children, Judy Criss and husband, Bill of Yorba Linda, CA, Joan Baker and husband, Richard of Alamo, CA, Melvin Kotur and wife, Kim of Bozeman, MT, Jim Kotur and wife, Peggy of Columbia Falls, MT, Tom Kotur and wife, Diane of Steubenville, OH, and Robert Kotur and Shari Duncan of Foster City, CA; two brothers, Milan Kotur of Toronto, OH, Larry Kotur of Weirton, WV, Diana Kozak of Steubenville, OH, and Martha Milewsky of Toronto, OH; and he was especially proud of his 12 grandchildren. The Rosary for Melvin will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 1999, with a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Msgr. Douglas Raun as Celebrant. Burial service will be held in Steubenville, Ohio on October 30, 1999.
