Kelley -- Onetia May (Nettles) Kelley, age 90, a resident of Albuquerque for 50 years, died Thursday, November 18, 1999. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Otis Kelley; daughter, Jean Leonard of Albuquerque; son, Dr. Robert Kelley and wife, Marcia of Laramie, WY; grandson, Edward Leonard and wife, Cynthia of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Eydee Van Atta and husband, Robert of Lakewood, CA, Mona Krogstad and husband, Steve of Sidney, MT, Jennifer Kelley of Albuquerque, and Karin Gerdts and husband, Michael of Columbus, OH; great-grandson, Scott Van Atta of Lakewood, CA; and great-granddaughters, Sky Van Atta of Lakewood, CA, Rachel Lee and Alyson Lee of Sidney, MT, and Nicole Leonard of Albuquerque. Onetia was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Nettles of Clovis; sister, Elva Phillips of Greeley, CO; and brother, Elgin Nettles of Tucson, AZ. She was born in Groesbeck, TX, and at age eight came with her family to a homestead near Yeso, NM. In 1921, the family moved to Clovis, where Onetia attended public schools and was graduated from high school in 1927. She attended West Texas State Teacher's College, Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, and the University of Southern California, where she earned the B.A. degree. She studied art at the University of New Mexico, and independently with Kenneth Adams, Randall Davies, Eneique Montenegro, Frederick Taubes and George Cherepov. For over 40 years she was a still life and landscape artist. She had one-person shows at the Santa Fe Art Museum, the Four Hills Country Club, and at the Lovelace Research Building. She was a member, and one-time president of the Nor Este Art Association, the National League of American Pen Women, New Mexico Art League, American Association of University Women, and was listed in Who's Who of American Women. Onetia grew up in a Christian home, and was baptized by Mr. George Mickey at Yeso in 1921. She had a lifetime of service in several congregations of the Church of Christ. Friends and family may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Sunday, November 21, 1999, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Services will be held at the Church of Christ at 7201 Montgomery Blvd. NE on Monday, November 22, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Dr. Jim Williams, Arlie Reed, George Tucker, Dick Jones, Brian Guernsey, and Ernie Blair. The family suggests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Albuquerque Christian Children's Home, 5700 Winter Haven Rd. NW 87120. French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.
