Ruiz -- Mr. Rene Ruiz, 62, of Albuquerque, passed away August 25, 1999. He was born August 20, 1937 in Arenal, Jalisco, Mexico. He lived in El Paso, Texas, where he attended the University of Texas at El Paso and began working for the El Paso Casket Company. He continued his employment with the Batesville Casket Company until his retirement in 1996. Mr. Ruiz was active as a referee and coach in the soccer leagues and supported all sports in which his wife and children participated. He was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church. He was also a member of the New Mexico Funeral Directors Association and was selected in 1990 and in 1997 as recipient of the New Mexico Funeral Directors Association Meritorious Service Award. Mr. Ruiz is survived by his wife of 33 years, Maria; sons, Rene M. Ruiz and wife, Michelle, Ricardo H. Ruiz and his wife, Monica, and Robert A. Ruiz, all of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Sabrina and Kylie Ruiz; brothers, Herman, Lorenzo and Antonio Ruiz of Guadalajara; sisters, Lorena Cruz of Monarch City, CA and Milagros Rouvrey and husband, Rene of Livermore, CA. Visitation will be Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel. A Rosary will be recited Friday evening, August 27, 1999, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Vermont and Claremont Streets NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 28, 1999, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, with Rev. Stephen Schultz, Celebrant. Pallbearers will be Carlos Medrano, Rene Ruiz, Ricardo H. Ruiz, Robert Ruiz, Jim Edwards, David Lujan, and Darron Peters. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the New Mexico Funeral Directors Association. Interment will be in Arenal Jalisco, Mexico. Arrangements by Riverside Funeral Care Center of Los Lunas, 865-1386 and Hillcrest Funeral Home of Albuquerque, 265-5959.
