Ogull -- Louis Ogull, age 87, beloved husband of the late Marion Greenberg Ogull; loving father of Judith I. Kennedy and her husband, George E. Kennedy; devoted grandfather of Lisa A. Kennedy and David R. Kennedy (all of Albuquerque); dear brother of Essie Solof (Hollywood, FL), died September 3, 1999, at home while sleeping quietly. A longtime social and political activist, Louis Ogull fought all his life for civil rights, racial integration, and fair treatment for minorities. Raised in New York City, where he resided until retirement, he began a prolific career reporting for the New York Sun and Bombay Chronicle before accepting a stint in public relations as the first head of PR for the newly formed National Maritime Union. An accomplished student of General Semantics and a vocal political presence and conscience in both the Albuquerque and New York areas, he was frequently solicited and was a familiar contributor to Letters to the Editor and TV commentary in matters of social policy and political position. For many years he was an executive job counselor for THinc, an executive placement corporation in NYC. Surviving him are sisters-in-law, Sue Gilbert (Queens, NY), Helen Sack (Brooklyn, NY), Shirley Pesses (Boca Raton, FL), Evelyn Greenberg (Walnut Creek, CA), Marian Heckler (New York, NY); brother-in-law, Ted Schoenfeld (Cranbury, NJ); and numerous nieces and nephews. A private service and cremation have taken place. Donations in his memory may be made to the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice, 144 Harvard SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106.
