Nicar -- Erma Lee Nicar, 88, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Friend, died Tuesday, September 7, 1999. After a brief and very sudden illness, Erma peacefully transitioned from this life in the early morning hours with her family at her bedside. Erma married William H. Nicar in 1927, who preceded her in death in 1965. Erma is survived by her daughter Emily Smith and son-in-law, Jim Smith of Albuquerque; and her daughter, Elaine McClain and son-in-law, Robert McClain of Farmington, NM. Her spirit continues in the hearts of her five grandchildren, Wayne Smith of Seattle, WA; David Smith and wife, Lael Smith of Albuquerque, NM; Carol Smith and husband, Mark Fidel of Denver, CO; Jill Gillen and husband, DeRon Gillen of Red Mesa, CO; and Cindy Cochran and husband, Ron Cochran of Aztec, NM. Erma's pride and joy were her four great-grandchildren; Kyle and Kevin, sons of David and Lael Smith; and Dani and Jordan, children of Jill and DeRon Gillen. Erma is also survived by her sister, Eula Mae Clifton of Alto, TX; her brother, Carlos Murphy of San Antonio, TX; a sister-in-law, Thelma Power of Baytown, TX; a sister-in-law, Annie Ruth Nicar of Alto, TX; as well as many special friends, especially the ladies at the Palo Duro Quilting group, and her dear friend, Harry. Erma moved from her home state of Texas to Albuquerque in the spring of 1967. Erma was an avid and talented quilter, and she loved working with her flower gardens and her plants. She led a full and active life surrounded by the people she loved. Our lives are richer and so very blessed for having had the experience of knowing, loving and being loved by Erma. We are all grateful for every moment we have had with this beautiful and gracious woman. She will live on in our hearts forever. A private memorial service was led by Rev. H. Patrick Pollard, Wednesday, September 8, 1999 at the First Church of Religious Science in Albuquerque. Interment: Lubbock City Cemetery, Lubbock, TX.
