Oyaca -- It is with deep sorrow that the family of Mr. Pete R. Oyaca announce his passing at the age of 87. Mr. Oyaca was a lifelong resident of Santa Fe. He was born on January 10, 1912, which was four days after New Mexico became a state. Mr. Oyaca quietly passed away on September 20, 1999. He had many accomplishments during his life. His most memorable was his service in the United States Navy during WWII. Mr. Oyaca also gave 37 years of service as a state employee. He worked during the administration of ten governors starting with Governor Clyde Tingley. He also worked as a bailiff for Judge Santiago Campos. He is survived by his wife of 65 years of marriage, Carmen Oyaca; son, Larry Oyaca; daughter, Angi Oyaca Koonce and husband, Lloyd; grandchildren, Martin Ortiz, Marc Ortiz and wife, Michelle, Marquita Ortiz and Marlisa Ortiz-Gomez and husband, Ray; two great-grandchildren, Monica Gomez and Peter Ortiz; sister, Tina Ortiz; nephew, Anthony Ortiz and wife, Ida and their son, Anthony Jr.; nephew, Raymond Ortiz and wife, Christa; niece, Kathy Ortiz; brother-in-law, Nestor Lovato; and special friend, Rudy Ortiz. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, September 22, at 2:00 p.m. with Rosaries to be recited at 3:00 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 23, 10:00 a.m., at St. Francis Cathedral. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
