Jackson -- William Lee Jackson Jr., 70, a resident of Albuquerque since 1932, died Saturday, September 18, 1999 after a 10-year battle with lung disease. Born on September 20, 1928 in Tulsa Oklahoma, Will moved with his family to the Southwest to treat his father's tuberculosis. Will graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1946 and went on to become a U.S. Army Sergeant in the Korean War, a cable splicer with the Mountain Bell and then began his career with the Sandia Peak Ski and Tram Company. Will first started working at the ski area as a weekend volunteer in 1955, in exchange for ski privileges. He was also President of the Albuquerque Ski Club from 1961 to 1963. In 1963, he became Assistant Manager of the Ski Area and shortly moved up and over the mountain to help build the Tramway, where he stayed as Technical Manager until June of 1996. During this time, he operated and maintained the Sandia Heights water supply well systems, the Sandia Heights Security Patrol, the Sanitation Department and started up a volunteer fire department, which became Bernalillo County District 5. Will was the Chief of District 5 from 1972 to 1993. In June 1996, he retired from the Tram Operations to manage the Sandia Heights Services Division until his death last weekend. Will is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Jackie Jackson; his son, Will Jackson III and his wife, Helen and their two children, Trak and Asti of Albuquerque; his son, Guy Jackson and his wife, Jina and their three children, Coleman, Leah and Megan of Albuquerque; his daughter, Ninette Clem and her husband, Mark and their three children, Breanna, Casey and Matthew of Albuquerque. He is also survived by a sister, Ann Evans and her husband, Al and their three children, John, Marianne and Patricia, also of Albuquerque. Will Jackson will be deeply missed by all. Services will be held at the Calvary Chapel; 4001 Osuna NE at 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 23, 1999. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the American Lung Association of NM, 216 Truman NE, 87108.
