Chavez -- Melvin J. Chavez, 30, a resident of Sabinal, NM, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 1999. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish and was very active with the youth group. Melvin was a volunteer fire fighter for the Abeytas Fire Department for 11 years. His biggest pleasure in life was laughing and helping people whenever he could. He will be greatly missed by all, especially all the elderly people of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish; Melvin was always there when they needed him. Melvin was a great son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. He was preceded in death by Rafael and Bernardita Chavez. He is survived by his parents, Ernesto and Dulcinea Chavez of the family home in Sabinal; his brothers and sisters, Ronnie and his wife, Stephanie of Cerro, NM, Brenda Hunt and her husband Brent of Alamogordo, NM, Carmella Tharnish and her husband, Thomas of Oakdale, CT, Michelle Chavez of Colorado Springs, CO, and Michael Chavez of Sabinal; paternal grandparents, Juan and Delfinia Chavez of Cerro, NM. Melvin is also survived by his many loving uncles; aunts; cousins; nieces and nephews. Rosary will be held on Wednesday, at 6:00 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Sabinal Catholic Cemetery.
