Roberts -- Preston Roberts Sr., 89, a longtime resident of Los Lunas, passed away in the early morning hours of June 6th. He is survived by his brother, John Roberts and sons; children, Ronald Roberts and wife, Carolyn, Preslene Lewallen and husband, Spencer, Kardie Whenley, Preston Roberts Jr. and wife, Julie, and Tara Roberts; grandchildren, Crystal Blea, Kristy and Kelley Lewallen and Brian Soloman. Preston was born on the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma in 1907 and grew up on the family cotton farm. During World War II he worked as a foreman for Douglas Aircraft. Mr. Roberts and his wife, Jeanne moved to New Mexico in 1952. For more than 30 years he and his sons operated Roberts Conoco and Feed Store near Los Lunas. Mr. Roberts was known for helping stranded families get their cars repaired of fueled. He would take them to local restaurants with orders to make sure they had all they wanted to eat. He was also generous at extending credit to local families. He was rarely disappointed. Mr. Roberts was always physically active and loved raising registered Appaloosa and Paint horses, enlisting his daughters to assist with various chores on their horse farm. In his retirement, Mr. Roberts enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Graveside services will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 9th.
