Brooks -- Lorena A. Brooks, born January 3, 1899 in a dugout in Knox County, Texas, died June 6, 1999 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Della Bell; all of her siblings; daughter, Karleen Jewell; and grandsons, Kelly Brooks and Mark Brooks. Survived by her children, Donald (Grace) Brooks, Elaine Fleming, Glen (Mary) Brooks, all of Albuquerque. Grandchildren, Marilyn Jelosek, Sharon Harvell, Mike Fleming, Sharon Sandoval, Linda Williams, Doug Brooks, Michael Reilly Brooks, Margie Molina, Kristi Lane, and special step-grandson, Robert Hanna. Many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces; nephews; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Bell and Helen Bell. Many, many friends. Lorena lived a full and busy life. Raised in her beloved Texas, she made New Mexico home for approximately the last 65 years. She enjoyed sharing her many memories of homesteading in Rifle, Colorado after World War I with her husband, Examander, the first"ironhorse," traveling as a little girl in a covered wagon and many, many more. She celebrated her 100th birthday earlier this year with a party attended by more than 100 friends and family. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 9, 1999 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Services will be held Thursday, June 10, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, with Rev. Carmen Conner officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale Blvd. SE. Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, in charge of arrangements.
