Bingham -- Mary Bingham, of Los Alamos, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2000. She was born in Indio, CA, and at an early age, her family moved to Albuquerque. She graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1948 and attended college at Hardin Simons University in Abilene, TX, graduating in 1951. She married Gene Matthews while attending college. After graduating she lived in Graham, TX. The marriage produced four children. Her husband; and son, Stephen, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Cecil Bingham of Los Alamos; her son, David Matthews and his wife, Marilyn of Houston, TX, and their three daughters, Elisabeth, Natalie and Katherine; and one great-grandson, Gabriel; her son, Lloyd Matthews and his wife, Diane of Houston, TX; her daughter, Linda and husband, Guy Slater of Albuquerque; her mother, Mary and step-father, Art Bogart of Albuquerque; sisters, Becky and husband, Craig Ginn, Ina and husband, Ray Collins, all of Albuquerque; her brothers, Joe Beaty and wife, Joan of Montgomery, NY, and Clyde Beaty of Westfield, NJ; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was very active in Southern Baptist Congregation and from her teens, the Woman's Missionary Union, including travels to Africa and China to visit missionaries in the field. She wrote religious materials for the Baptist Sunday School Board, including a book and contributed articles to the WMU magazine and other publications. She also served several years as New Mexico State Representative for the American Bible Society. She taught school in Newcastle, TX, and after moving back to Albuquerque in 1971, she attended graduate school at the University of New Mexico and taught Special Education at Buena Vista Special Education School. Services will be held at the White Rock Baptist Church on Friday, January 28, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow at the church. Private family interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery will be held at a later date. The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, 839 Paseo de Peralta, Santa Fe, NM 87501 or the White Rock Baptist Church, 80 State Rd. 4, Los Alamos, NM 87544.
