Orona -- Modesta M. (Tita) Orona, 85, a resident of El Cerro, was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 24, 2000. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome. She was also a member of the Legion of Mary. Modesta was the last of her generation in her family. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Jessie Romero in 1986; and granddaughters, Theresa Romero in 1988, Carol Armendariz in 1991; her son-in-law, Juan Romero in 1993. She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Juan of the family home in El Cerro; her six children, Willie of Las Nutrias, NM, Valentin and his wife, Mary of Lompoc, CA, Lillian Romero of Tome, Oswald and his wife, Ruth of Las Nutrias, Patricia Montes and her husband, Ralph of El Cerro, and Dorothy Godley and her husband, John of Springfield, VA; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Melinda Orona of Adelino; two brothers-in-law, Macedonio"M.C." Baca of Belen and Frank Orona of Albuquerque. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services are pending, contact Romero Funeral Home for service times, 864-8501.
