Demerritt -- Ethel Irene Bachert DeMerritt, beloved mother, sister and aunt, of Las Vegas, NM, formerly of Bosque Farms, went to be with Our Lord on Monday, February 21, 2000. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren H. and Betty Bachert; grandparents, Juan Pedro and Eufelia Crespin; aunt, Florinda Crespin; uncle, Donaciano Crespin; and nephews, Warren Harding Bachert and James Warren Gallegos. Ethel was born on March 7, 1949 in Las Vegas, NM. She was a graduate of Robertson High School. She retired from the Bernalillo County District Attorney's office after 27 years of service. Before her current employment with Cornell Corrections in Santa Fe, she also worked as a substitute teacher for the East Las Vegas School District. She was an active and longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Peralta, where she also taught catechism. Ethel's zest for life was evident in her enjoyment of all outdoor activities and her love of rollerblading, singing and dancing. She had a talent for all arts and crafts, especially knitting and crocheting. A devoted mother, loving sister, and beloved friend, Ethel will be dearly missed by all those whose life she touched. She leaves behind her a legacy of memories filled with laughter, understanding, and of giving and receiving love without limits. She is survived by her beloved children, Jerry Allen and Jennifer DeMerritt; her loving friend and father of her children, Jerry DeMerritt; sisters, Betty Ann Espinoza and husband, Alfonso, Geraldine C. Baca and husband, Leroy, Judy Trujillo and husband, Moises, Mariann Bachert and Maribeth Bachert; brother, James W. Bachert and wife, Romelia; nephews and nieces, Leroy Baca, Jeana Baca, Colleen Shirk, Candice Ortiz, Cheryl Alderete, Annette Baca, Crystal Ortiz, Joey Gallegos, Justin James Gallegos, Angelina Bachert, and Michelle Bachert; great-nieces and nephews, Jonathan, Freddie, Heather, Latasha, Montana, Zachary, Americo, and Abel; aunt, Amelia Crespin; and numerous other relatives and many friends. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, February 23, 2000, 6:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Peralta, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Thursday, February 24, 2000, 6:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Santa Fe, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 25, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Santa Fe.
