Hatchitt -- James Thomas Hatchitt, 51, surrounded by people who loved him, died Wednesday, September 13th at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque. Jim suffered a heart attack from which he never regained consciousness on Saturday after playing golf with friends. In addition to golf, Jim loved people, sports, reading, music, singing, pizza, a good joke, movies and most of all his family. For the past few years, Jim was involved in the framing business at Affordable Frames and Frame Magic. For many years, Jim was a manager at Phillips Petroleum. A resident of Albuquerque since 1963, Jim graduated from Sandia High School in 1967, and attended ENMU & UNM. He also served in the Army National Guard. Born December 4, 1948 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Jim attended Corpus Christi & Sacred Heart grade schools there. While his home and heart were in New Mexico, Jim married a Fort Dodge girl, Elizabeth Ann McGill on July 23, 1971. They enjoyed a love, devotion and genuine partnership that grew visibly throughout the years. Jim's true pride and joys in life revolved around his three children, Joe, Debbie and Jenny. An outstanding, dedicated husband and father, Jim never missed an event his children were involved in, was a true mentor in his children's lives and businesses, and always welcomed and was loved by his children's many friends. He was also actively involved for years in the Eldorado High School booster club. A true indication of the esteem Jim was held in by those who knew him, more than five dozen family and friends rallied around him during his final days. Jim had an outstanding sense of humor with an infectious, gleeful laugh, and a sparkle in his eye. An intense competitor in any entertainment games, Jim was intelligent, curious, and always made whatever he was involved in more fun for those around him. He leaves a void in the lives of everyone who was privileged enough to know him. We are eternally grateful for the additional nine years he lived after his first bout with heart trouble. We are grateful he survived the last five days to give us all an opportunity to say goodbye. He is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth, son Joseph, daughters Deborah and Jennifer, his mother Mary Hatchitt, brother William & wife Cynthia, his sister Mary Ann Hatchitt, nephews and nieces, Kenneth Julie, Brian, & Stephanie Hatchitt all of Albuquerque, sister-in-law Mary McGill and husband Arthur & niece Clare Talley of Austin, Texas, and many aunts and cousins in New Mexico, Iowa and Nebraska. His father, William and his brother Stephen who Jim missed intensely preceded him in death. He joined his father and brother in a better place on what would have been his brother Steve's 50th birthday. Jim has many loyal and devoted friends, particularly Mark Stock, who share in the loss and who have provided great comfort and support to his loved ones during these difficult days. The family wishes to thank the medical staff at Presbyterian who tended to him. Pallbearers will be William H. White, Bill Lew, Richard Sommers, Jim Smith, Robert M. Gatewood, and Gary Bigness. Honorary pallbearers are Joe & Mark Stock, Charlie Henshaw, Clark Sanchez, Jack Cutshall, Kenneth & Brian Hatchitt, William & Thomas White, and Arch Ramsden.. Should friends desire to make memorial contributions they may be made to the American Heart Association. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, September 15th at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas NE. A rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. Friday night at French Mortuary on Lomas. Funeral services are pending.
