Murtagh -- Margaret Mary (Peggy) Murtagh, 68, a resident of Albuquerque since 1989, died Friday, September 8, 2000. Peggy was born October 17, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York and was the wife to the late John Joseph Murtagh, Jr. since September 7, 1952. She's the mother of five children, Patti and husband, Mel Rains, Anne Murtagh, Robert Murtagh all of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Michael Murtagh and Peggy, John Murtagh and Kelli, of Albuquerque; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She retired after 35 years of civil service to Federal Government in 1997. At Kirtland A.F.B. Peggy was a Resource Manager for AFOTEC and received numerous awards for outstanding contributions and meritorious service. Peggy also worked at Nellis AFB, Nevada for 15 years as a budget analyst. She is a lifetime member of the Association of Women Comptrollers. She was known for her dedication to her country throughout the military and civil service communities. Peggy devoted her life to God, her husband, and her family. As a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, she was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society. She also performed numerous hours of public service as a member of the Citizens Review Board for the City of Albuquerque and the Women's Auxillary of Disabled American Veterans. Peggy's lifetime adventures began as a flight attendant in the early days for American Airlines, 2nd runner up as Miss New York 1951, and traveling during her husbands of 30 years of service with the Air Force. Before her passing, Peggy expressed her love and appreciation for all her friends, both new and old, her joy and gratefulness of a wonderful and fulfilling life. After a battle with cancer, Peggy passed peacefully at home with family, friends and pets around her. Peggy and her family wish to thank Dr. Victor Vigil and staff, the nurses at St. Josephs Hospital 10th Floor, neighbors, friends, and co-workers for their prayers, thoughtfulness and kindness during this difficult time. Rosary will be recited Tuesday, September 12th, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary-Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd NW. Mass will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2000, 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper NW. Friends may visit French Mortuary-Westside, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW., Tuesday, 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Peggy requests donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society in care of Immaculate Conception Parish, 619 Copper NW 87102 or to People Living Through Cancer, PLTC, 323 8th St SW, Alb, NM 87102.
