Sandoval -- Sister Mary of Jesus, O.C.D. (Yvonne Sandoval). Bride of Christ, True Daughter of the Church, and a Carmelite Nun since 1962, Sister Mary of Jesus went to be with the Lord on May 24, 2000. Sister Mary of Jesus was born and raised in Espanola and spent many years of her life in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. During the 1970s, Sister Mary of Jesus worked with Mother Teresa in the ghettos of New York. In Santa Fe, she worked with private attorneys and state agencies. She volunteered with Brother Mathias Barrett at the Barrett House in Albuquerque and the Museum of New Mexico. Her mother, Anna Kavanaugh-Sandoval, preceded Sister Mary of Jesus in death. She is survived by her father, Benjamin Sandoval; her seven brothers, two sisters, and their spouses, Armando and Diana Sandoval, Ben and Tina Sandoval, Eugene and Beaulah Sandoval, Jose and Theresa Sandoval, Arturo and Clara Sandoval, Albert and Mariana Sandoval, John and Eva Sandoval, Liza Keyohara, Margaret and Frank Sanchez; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends also survive her. Mass of the Resurrection will be concelebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Espanola on Saturday, May 27, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her brothers. Honorary pallbearers are Goddaughters, Anna Sandoval-Garcia, Letitia Sandoval, Yvette Sanchez, and Alegra Garcia; friends, Sally Gonzales, Sister Margaret Chochon, Gloria Martin, Margaret Quintana, Cathleen Catanach, Dolores Martin, Sharon Kelly, Eloisa Block, Beverly Garcia, Anita G. Martinez, Star Jones and Marie Millsap. Donations may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, P.O. Box 69, Espanola, NM 87532. The family of Sister Mary of Jesus have entrusted her funeral arrangements with the Salazar Family of Block-Salazar Mortuary, 1-505-753-2288 or 1-800-443-4854.
