Lyle -- Martha Thelma Lyle, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died Monday, May 22, 2000 after a very long, painful battle with bone cancer. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John R. Lyle, Sr. of Albuquerque; sons, John R. Lyle, Jr. of Fullerton, CA and Michael W. Lyle and wife, Kim of Las Vegas, NV; daughters, Mary E. Utrup of Cedar Crest, NM, Martha G. Lyle-Erhard and husband, Bruce of Las Cruces, NM, and Veronica A. Petersen of Seaford, NY; daughter-in-law, Dr. Carol Merovka of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren, Anna Maria, Matthew William Utrup and Tara Lichelle Hankins, all of Albuquerque; Michael James Hankins, and wife, Christina of Austin, TX, Kim Colleen Hine and husband, Jeff of Rio Rancho, and Jeffrey Lyle Petersen of Seaford, NY; three great-grandchildren, Trahurn, Michael, and Kallie; and three nephews, Donald Waudby of Dallas, TX, Curtis and E.W. Waudby, both of Ft. Worth, TX. Mrs. Lyle was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Herbert Pearson; and her sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Pearson Waudby. Thelma was born August 21, 1920 in Kansas City, KS to William T. and Gertrude Pearson. She was an accomplished pianist and also gave music lessons. She met John at Ft. Leavenworth, KS in 1937. They have remained sweethearts ever since. Mrs. Lyle went on to complete her degree as a registered nurse from St. Joseph's Hospital in Kansas City, MO. As the wife of an Army careerist, Mrs. Lyle lived in many different cities and countries throughout Europe. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church for many years. Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 27, 2000, 8:30 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, with Father Ronald Bruckner, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery with Deacon Harry Gogan officiating. The family especially wants to thank the Carefree Assisted Living staff and the Kaseman Presbyterian Hospice caregivers for the wonderful care they gave to Thelma. Special thanks to the Marianites and the Eucharistic Ministers of Our Lady of The Annunciation Parish for bringing the Holy Eucharistic to Thelma for many years.
