Santiago -- Pedro Rodriguez Santiago, 74, born in Coamo, Puerto Rico, July 23, 1925, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2000, after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his dearest friend, Fidel Salazar. He is survived by his loving wife, Rose; his children, Stanley Santiago, wife, Diane and family, of Albuquerque, Fred Santiago, wife Consuelo and family of Philadelphia, PA, Peter Santiago, wife, Lettie, and family of Fontana, FL, Anna Schneider, husband, Scott and family of Albuquerque, Barbara Elphick and grandson, Sean of Midland, TX, and Bernadette Santiago of Albuquerque. Also surviving is his sister, Carmen Roche; two brothers, Guanny Roche, and Angelito Santiago and numerous nieces and nephews. Pedro came to the United States to play baseball in 1948, he played in North Carolina, West Virginia, Texas, and finished his career in Albuquerque wit the Albuquerque Dukes in 1955. He later coached little league teams in the San Jose area of Albuquerque. Pedro loved people and never met a stranger. Visitations will be today from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary, located on the corner of 8th and Iron. A Rosary will be recited this also in the Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Stanley Santiago, Matthew Santiago, Scott Schneider, Calixto Sifre, Clemente Hernandez and Manuel Salazar. Funeral Services are in the care of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave., S.W.
