Mccabe -- George J. McCabe, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1988, died Monday, May 15, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth"Betty" C. McCabe of Albuquerque; sons, George J. McCabe III of Alexandria, VA and David McCabe of Grand Prairie, TX; daughter, Maureen Murphy of Madison, CT; and son, Tim McCabe and wife, Sandra of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Brian and Katie Murphy, Kendal, Megan, and Sean McCabe; brothers, James McCabe of Peach Tree, GA and Jack McCabe and wife, Sue of Davenport, IA; and sisters, Mary McCarthy of Singer Island, FL and Patricia Roche and husband, Jack of Palm Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill McCabe. Mr. McCabe was a Navy veteran of WWII. He served as commanding officer of an LCI in the South Pacific. It is believed that he may have been the youngest captain of an ocean going ship in the Navy at that time. Following the war, he and Elizabeth were married in 1946 at Davenport, IA. The family wants to especially thank all the caregivers and staff at Manor Care-Heights. The loving care they gave to George will always be remembered and appreciated. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church, 8901 Candelaria Rd. NE, Saturday, May 20th at 10:00 am. French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.
