Stagg -- John B. Stagg, 93, a resident of Regent at Sandia Springs, Rio Rancho NM, died Sunday, December 3, 2000 of pneumonia. Born in Haledon, NJ the youngest of four children of Ella B. Smyth and John Byron Stagg, John worked all his life as a public accountant and was active in Boy Scouts, Cedar Cliff Methodist Church (NJ), and the Methodist Men's Club, serving as scout leader, church treasurer, choir member, and coordinator of chimes. He was married for 34 years to Cora Althea Decker Stagg, a teacher in Haledon and the Pequannock Township (NJ) school systems, who died in 1972. John was married in 1973 to Anne Adam Friesinger. In 1976, John and Anne moved to Brooksville, FL where they were founding members of the Mariner United,Methodist Church. He and Anne were active in High Point Bible Class, Travel Club, and numerous other community activities from 1976 through 1988, when John suffered a stroke. He returned to a metally-active life, daily reading one or more cassette books from the Library of Congress National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. In 1996, he and Anne moved to Atlanta GA, where Anne still lives near her daughters, Paula Goldman, and Roberta Carney, and in 1998, John moved to Rio Rancho, NM to live near his daughter, Mary Ellen Capek. John was a kind and generous man with a warm sense of humor, a strong sense of right and wrong, and a loving and loyal nature. He is survived by his wife, Anne; his daughter, Mary Ellen Capek and her partner, Susan Hallgarth of Corrales, NM; his son, Peter J. Stagg and his wife, Joanne of Butler, NJ; stepchildren, Roberta Carney, Paula and Stephen Goldman of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Nancy and Jim Bosch, Terry and Betsy Stagg, Robin and Scott McMurray, Adam Carney, Heather and Courtney Goldman, Edward, Charles and Kate Capek; and great-grandchild, Kaitlyn Cora Bosch. He will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be held at a later date. the family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to the Metropolitan Ministries, a multipurpose nonprofit homeless shelter and training agency located at 2002 North Florida Ave., Tampa, FL 33602-2204.
