Ohl -- Dora L. Ohl, resident of Albuquerque for 18 years, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2000. She is survived by her niece, Barbara Rechenberg and husband, Johannes of Dresden, Germany; her nephew, Lothar Hoffman of Moser, Germany; her cousin, Ruth Fellendorf of Bad Aibling, Germany; her brother-in-law, Ernie Pfannenschmidt of Vancouver, British Columbia; and a host of friends from her church family at Saint John's Lutheran Church in Flushing, New York; the Frater family in Cleveland, Ohio; and her church family at All Saints Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Ohl, her parents, her two sisters, and her brother. Dora was born Lina Dora Appel in Dresden, Germany, October 3, 1907. At the age of 22, she realized her dream of coming to America. She met Bobby Ohl and married him in 1935. In 1936, she received her citizenship and was proud to call America home. She and Bobby traveled all over the United States but called Flushing, NY home. She was active in her church, singing in the choir, organizing the rummage sales, and as a member of the ladies guild. She was known for her green thumb and beautiful garden. she remained in Flushing until 1982, when she moved to Albuquerque, becoming a member of the All Saints Lutheran Church family. She sang in the choir, volunteered at the Storehouse, and was active in Deborah Circle. Balloon Fiesta was one of her favorite times of year and, just like New York, her garden was always in bloom. Dora's bright smile and her ability to laugh, especially at herself, endeared her to everyone she met. She will be missed. A special thanks to the staff at Sunbridge West Mesa Health Care Center for their wonderful care of Dora for the last five years of her life and to the nursing staff at Saint Joseph's West Mesa Hospital and Saint Joseph's Northeast Heights Hospital for their care and compassion during her last hours. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2000 at All Saints Lutheran Church. Pastor Andy Anderson presiding.
