Knapp -- Darwin Henry Knapp, Sr., a resident of Rio Rancho since 1973, passed away at home on June 3, 2000 after a long and courageous battle with congestive heart failure. He was born on December 26, 1912 to Glenn Leigh and Estelle Ford Knapp in Ransomeville, NY. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Cornelia Bedeaux Knapp; four children by a previous marriage, Darwin, Jr. and wife, Gerio of Mesa, AZ, Darlene Tomak, Tonawanda, NY, Elaine Farraro and husband, John, Holley, NY, David Wm. Knapp and wife, Jane of St. Charles, MO; nine grandchildren; and 14 grandchildren, and he loved them all. He graduated from high school in Detroit and Trott Vocational School in Niagra Falls in 1932. During WW II he served in the European Theater of Operations in England. He was a charter member of St. Paul's United Church and served on the Council, Board of Deacons and sang tenor in the Chancel Choir. He was a member of Sandoval Lodge #76 AM&AF Past Patron of Amboy Chapter #151 So. Amboy, NJ; Turquoise Chapter #71, Rio Rancho; American Legion #118 and Meadowlark Sr. Center. He started the committee and helped to incorporate the city of Rio Rancho. He loved gardening and music. In Western New York he worked in industrial relations and wrote an internal company magazine. After he moved to New Jersey he worked a cost accountant for contractors who also employed him in Illinois till he was forced to retire on disability. HE is the author of"Family Finances", helping people to set up budgets. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the very professional and compassionate staff of Quality Continuum Hospice who helped lighten the pain and burden to the family during the last few months and also the many friends who stood by. Interment will take place at Vista Verde's Rose Garden at 10:00 a.m., followed by Memorial Services at St. Paul's United Church on Saturday, June 10 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Church or Quality Continuum Hospice, 2625 Pennsylvania Av., Alb.
