Thorne -- Emmett M. Thorne passed away on December 16, 1999 at his home in Rio Rancho. Emmett was born on December 8, 1912 in Dekalb, Texas to Lucius and Erma Walker Thorne. Emmett attended Wilberforce University in Ohio and then went into the Army to serve his country in the Korean War. He moved to Rio Rancho in 1996 from Chicago, where he was very successful in the medical research field. Emmett was committed to starting Acosta Medical Testing Corporation in New Mexico, but due to his failing health he was unable to achieve his goal. Emmett was preceded in death by his sister, Erlene Crouch who passed away in August, 1999. He is survived by his loving wife, Helga of Rio Rancho; daughter, Larisa Lowe and husband, Michael of Matteson, IL; son, Maurie Thorne of Chicago; his mother, Erma Thorne; a sister, Agnes M. Robinson, both of Rio Rancho; and brother, Lawrence and his wife, Katherine Thorne of Detroit; brother-in-law, Helmut and wife, Doris Weber of Germany; sister-in-law, Ulla Mokenthin and husband, Gunter of Germany; nephews, Lawrence L. Thorne Jr. of Texas and Steven C. Thorne of Riverside, CA; and two grandchildren, Laurice and Lloyd. He will be greatly missed by his family. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held today at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with Bishop John DeLeon Walker officiating.
