Romero -- 1920-2002. Mela J. Romero, 81, a resident of Belen, passed away on Wednesday January 9, 2002. She was a loving wife, and a wonderful mother whose full life was devoted to her nine children. She shared a very special love for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Romero was preceded in death by her husband, Arsenio in 1999. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Helen Greigo, Clara Ochoa and husband, Richard, Lorraine Vigil and husband, Henry, and Annette Romero-Baca and husband, Jess; her sons, Pat Romero and wife, Patricia, Leo Romero and wife, Judy, Frank Romero and wife, Mary, Joe Romero and wife, Georgene, and Rudy Romero; her grandchildren, Allen Griego, Kimberly Griego, Dion Romero, Gino Romero, Jermaine Romero, Shannon Dietrich, Rodney Vigil, Krista Baca, Arsenio Romero, Ana Romero, Dominica Lucero, Lisa Baca, Isaac Baca, Robert Ochoa, and Steven Ochoa; and her great-grandchildren, Nicolle, Amanda, Christina, Vanessa, Haley Baca, Leanne, Tori, Taylor Dietrich, Kristin, Taylor Romero, Jarod, Christopher, Marcos, and Haley Brophy. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday January 14, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. A private family burial will take place at a later time. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Allen, Dion, Gino, Rodney, Arsenio, Isaac, Robert and Steven. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a local homeless shelter in Mela Romero's name. Arrangements by Riverside Funeral Home in Belen.
