Aceves -- Mr. Luis Aceves, 94, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2002. Luis was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on April 26, 1907. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Schubert-Aceves; brother, Henry Aceves; and sister, Marta Ocubo. Luis lived on his ranch,"El Chinchonte", for 65 years where he farmed and raised cattle. He was a Master Weaver of the Chimayo style weaving. Special weavings were made for two United States Presidents, Governors, Mayors and other celebrities and Dignitaries. He was the recipient of many prestigious awards for his weavings. He also has weavings in the permanent collection of the Museum of Albuquerque. As a special tribute to his father, his son, Henry, named the 1994 development in Old Town, Plaza Don Luis. One of his greatest joys was to sit on a bench at Plaza Don Luis and talk to tourists from all over the world and to demonstrate the art of weaving in Henry's store, Old Town Basket & Rug Shop. Luis had a special love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Louie Martin Aceves and Esther Hardy of Phoenix, AZ, Fita Witte and husband, Jerry of Rowe, NM, Henry Aceves and wife, Karen of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Jeff Witte and wife, Janet of Las Cruces, NM, Jon Witte and wife, Stacie of Clint, TX, Erin Aceves and Ashley Aceves of Albuquerque, Richard Aceves and wife, Paula of Phoenix, AZ, Ed Aceves and wife, Kristy of Phoenix, AZ, Lisa Gerwitz and Donald Waldhauser of Phoenix, AZ, Monty Hardy of Phoenix, AZ and Jolene Herr of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Witte and Jennifer Witte, Sydney Witte and Carlie Shea Witte, Douglas Gerwitz and Christine Gerwitz, Ciara Lynn Aceves, Richard Aceves and Daniel Aceves, Alexsis Herr and Brandon Herr. He is survived by brothers, Carlos Aceves of Albuquerque, Alfredo Aceves of Denver, CO; sisters, Angelina Diaz of El Paso, TX and Carolina Aceves of Friona, TX. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, January 13, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. in the 8th Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 14, 2002 at San Felipe De Neri Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Witte, Jon Witte, Ed Aceves, Richard Aceves, Ruben Martinez and Ray Wright Jr.. Honorary Pallbearers will be Erin and Ashley Aceves and great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to San Felipe De Neri Catholic Church Arise and Rebuild Campaign. Services are in the care of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave. S.W. 243-5222.
