Tafoya -- Petra Tafoya, age 99, beloved and devoted grandmother and friend was welcomed into the arms to the Lord our Savior, Tuesday, January 22, 2002, while surrounded by her loving family. Petra was born in El Paso, TX and was a resident of Los Lunas, NM; she was a parishioner of San Clamente Catholic Church, her devotion to her faith was participating in the Posadas during the Christmas Season. For years she worked for the Los Lunas Schools and Village of Los Lunas and was very active as a foster grandparent at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School; Petra was well known by many as"La Cucharita". A women with a big heart who loved helping people and sharing her talents with everyone also enjoyed participating in the Senior Citizens Senior Olympics, bingo, working on her puzzles, crocheting, singing, and dancing. Grandma, you will be greatly missed by all of us. Petra was preceded in death by her husband, Conrado Tafoya; her daughter, Estefana Tabora; and son-in-law, Dimas Tabora. She is survived by her seven loving granddaughters, Anna Mendez, Rebecca Canotal and husband, Noe, Sandra Tabora, Polly Castillo and husband, Jimmy, Valerie Gurule and husband, Tommy, Renee Tabora and Norman Velasco, Lucinda Rael and husband, Ernest; 17 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. A Rosary will be recited Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta, NM. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. also at the church, with the Reverend Albert Gallegos as Celebrant. Interment will follow at San Clamente Cemetery in Los Lunas, NM. Casket bearers will be Lawrence Castillo, Rod Collins, Daniel Tabora, Anthony Gutierrez, Jerome Castillo, and Jacob Rael. Honorary bearers will be Tommy Gurule, Norman Velasco, and Chris Canotal. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family. Funeral Services are entrusted to Alameda Mortuary, 9420 4th Street NW, 898-3160.
