Shipp -- James Carol Shipp born December 30, 1936 in Carlsbad, NM died peacefully on Friday, February 22, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sharon; and his children, daughter, Donna Fowler and husband, Billy of Albuquerque; son, John Shipp and wife, Teresa of Los Angeles, CA; and daughter, Anita Duffey and husband, Charlie of Albuquerque. Jim will be missed by his grandchildren, Chris Fowler and wife, Maria, Joshua Fowler, Taya Fowler, Elia Fowler, Marcus Duffey and Iain Shipp; and great-granddaughter, McKenzie Fowler. He is also survived by his brother, Bert Shipp and wife, Shan of Dallas, TX; sister, Paula Brower and husband, Van of Artesia, NM; sister, Nickie Opperman and husband, Les of Midland, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert N. and Anna Mae Shipp of Artesia, NM. Jim graduated from Artesia High School, vice-president of the class of 1955 and went on to study in the College of Engineering at the University of New Mexico, a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Throughout his schooling, he excelled in basketball and track & field events. Jim's career in the electrical supply and electrical contracting business spanned 30 years in New Mexico and Texas. Then in 1980, he founded his own company, S & J Services, in Albuquerque designing and constructing custom electrical control systems for scores of structures in New Mexico and throughout the Southwest. Jim was an avid sportsman, winner of many Senior Olympic events in recent years at the city and state levels and in his earlier years many golf tournaments. At home, he enjoyed playing card and board games with his grandchildren. A lifetime of singing with his family and friends provided years of happy memories at home, in his community and in his church. Jim's active service in different churches over the last five decades ranged from deacon and elder to sponsoring a high school youth group, and recently, co-leading a men's core group in Community Bible Study. He was widely known as a very generous and supportive friend, neighbor and family member. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Calvary Chapel, 4001 Osuna Road NE at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2002. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Special Olympics for Children 6600 Palomas St. NE, Suite 207, in memory of Jim Shipp.
