Saiz -- Fernando Saiz, 89, a lifelong resident of Alameda, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2002 after a brief illness. Fernando was born August 17, 1912 the son of Jose and Beatrice Gurule Saiz in Alameda, New Mexico. He had been a cement finisher with the Jaynes Corporation before retiring. Fernando is survived by his wife Josefina, his children, Rosemary DeVargas and husband, Arthur, Carmen Gutierrez and husband, Benito, Isabel Rodarte, Veronica Lovato and husband, Frank, Julia Tafoya, and Vidal Mora; one sister, Merlinda Gurule; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. The Rosary will be recited on Thursday, March 21, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 22, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Carlo DeVargas, Frank Gutierrez, Andrew Gutierrez, Walter Rodarte, Robert Rodarte and Simon Saiz. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chris Johnston, Ken Chavez, and Delfino Arellano. A Special Thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at Presbyterian Hospital (5th floor and SAC unit 4th floor). Arrangements by Vista Verde Mortuary, Rio Rancho, 892-9920.
