Barraclough -- Edmund Lee"Barry" Barraclough passed away in his sleep early on the morning of July 11, 2002 at the age of 84 after a 26-year long courageous battle with prostate cancer. Born 5 June, 1918 in Beaver, Utah to a Mormon pioneering family, he was firstborn of the six children of Edmund Steele Barraclough and Ida May Lee. A member of the CCC in the Great Depression, he was a veritable Isaac Walton of sportsmen, a lifelong hunter and fisherman, and an employee of the U.S. Forestry Service. Serving as a B-17 squadron leader in the Eighth Air Force stationed in England during World War II, he led 25 missions over Nazi Germany for which he was awarded the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross with double oak leaf cluster. He served as an officer of the USAF for 26 years and was retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1967. Continuing his career as a nuclear physicist, he was employed by the AEC (later the DOE) as a specialist in nuclear safety until his retirement. He was married for 42 years to Mary Elizabeth Yirka Barraclough who predeceased him and for nearly a decade to Lois Bergin Barraclough who was by his side until the end. A resident of Albuquerque for some 50 years, Barry is survived by his wife, Lois, of the family home; by his son, Bruce Lee Barraclough of Los Alamos; and his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Barraclough of Albuquerque. Also surviving are his brothers-in-law and spirit, Bernard Yirka and Robert Yirka; his daughter-in-law Maureen; two grandsons, Jamie and Brendan Barraclough; a brother, Don; and three sisters, Lorraine, Shirley, and Fay of Tooele, Utah. Beloved by all, Edmund Lee Barraclough bore the true mark of a man brave until the end. He shall be sorely missed. Cremation by Sunrise Society with memorial service to be announced.
