Valdez -- Sixto Valdez, 102, of Albuquerque, New Mexico died July 25, 2002 following a short illness.¯ He was born to Clemente and Maria Benita Valdez on April 28, 1900 in Parkview, New Mexico.¯ Sixto's education began at St. Catherine Indian School, he went on to Menaul School, El Rito Normal School and concluded at Highlands University.¯ He then taught at various schools in Rio Arriba County and at CC Camps for 20 years.¯ In the 1930's, he worked as a timekeeper for the railroad and in the 1940's he was an agent for the selective service, assistant supervisor for Bernabe Herrera and Albert Amador, a Rio Arriba County School Board Member and co-chairman of the Rio Arriba County Democratic Party.¯ In the 1950's, Sixto worked for the State of New Mexico Bureau of Revenue, State Land Office, State Treasurer, and was a board member for Kit Carson Electric Co-op.¯ In his later years, Sixto made his acting debut at the age of 80 with"La Compania de Teatro de Albuquerque".¯ He also had acting roles as an extra in the movies,"The Lone Ranger","Convoy", and other films that were shot in New Mexico.¯ Sixto was preceded in death by his brothers, Malaquias Valdez and Apolinaro Valdez; sisters, Carlota Montoya, Cornelia Campos, Fedelina Mascarenas, Lugarda Miera, and is survived by his longtime companion, Mela Valdez; his sister, Magdalena Montoya of Velarde; his daughters, Helen Louise Bency and husband, Ted of Espanola and Belen, Ida Lopez and husband, Xavier of Albuquerque; sons, Eli Valdez and wife, Annie, Ernesto Valdez and wife, Dulce of Santa Fe; great-grandchildren, Jolene Valdez and Joshua Lopez of Albuquerque; other special relatives include Margarita Martinez Cannon of Los Angeles, CA., Consuelo Chavez of Albuquerque, and their children; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.¯ A Memorial Service will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde, NM. on Monday, August 5, 2002 at 11:00 a.m.¯Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th ST.
