Bowman -- Ken Bowman, a resident of Albuquerque for 30 years, died on Friday, August 16, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Dottie Bowman; son, Kendell Bowman and his significant other, Maria E. Venegas of Albuquerque; sisters Tillie B. Sutton of Window Rock, AZ, Elsie J. Chase of Ft. Defiance, AZ, and Bertha M. Felland of Albuquerque; brother, Emmett Bowman of Phoenix, AZ; aunts, Rose Begay and Matilda Arviso of Tohatchi, NM; and lifelong friend, Jimmy Hickman of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Bowman. His clan was Haltsooi (Meadow) born for Bitaani, maternal grandparent Tachini and paternal grandparent, Todechini (Bitter water). Ken was raised in Ft. Defiance, AZ where he completed his elementary education. He graduated high school from Navajo Methodist Mission in Farmington, NM and then graduated from Utah State University in Logan. Ken served in the US Army and then worked for the U. S. Forest Service as a District Forest Service Ranger in Carson National Forest. He continued to work for the U.S. Forest Service in the Apache National Forest, Gila National Forest, the Regional U. S. Forest Service in Albuquerque and then in Washington D.C. in the National Forest Service. After retirement, he worked with special operations, contracting with the US Forest Service to transport fire crews. He married Dorothy Sheffel on March 31, 1963 in Farmington. He was an avid sportsman, enjoyed bow and rifle hunting, fishing, golf, baseball and football. He was a member of the toastmasters and the Amigos Retirement Club. Services will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris NE, with Pastor Larry Miller officiating.
