Stapp -- George Stapp, Jr., 74, son of George and Eileen (Davis) Stapp, was born on February 19, 1928, in West Plains, MO, and passed away on August 29, 2002 at his home in Rio Rancho, NM following a long illness. George grew up in Mountain Grove, Missouri, and graduated from Mountain Grove High school in 1946. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in the Panama Canal Zone. He attended Missouri Valley College, Southern Methodist University, and Southwest Missouri State University. He married Barbara K. Shannon on August 16, 1952, and taught in Missouri rural schools and engaged in ranching and farming until 1955 when he and Barbara moved to Albuquerque, NM, where their four daughters were born. George worked for an Albuquerque bank for a number of years, sold real estate, and worked at Holloman AFB, in Alamogordo, NM. In 1967 he moved his family back to Mountain Grove, MO, where he was in partnership with his parents in Stapp Funeral Home for ten years. Sometime after his father's death he sold the funeral home and, along with his family, returned to Albuquerque in 1977. During the late 1970s and 80s he worked in retail liquor and restaurant business. In 1992 he and his wife moved to the Cleveland, Ohio, area where they lived until 1996. Upon retirement, they returned to Albuquerque. George was a member of the Missouri Funeral Directors Association and Kiwanis International. He was also a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. George was preceded in death by his parents and only brother, Charles William Stapp. George is survived by his wife, Barbara of Rio Rancho, NM; four daughters, Kim Rowles and husband, Frank, Osceola and Warsaw, MO, Jennifer Beckholt and husband, Jeff, Suzanne Riley and husband, Andrew, Bryn Livingston and husband, Mark, all of Rio Rancho, NM; 10 grandchildren, Adam and Daniel Rowels, Colin and Nolan Riley, Shelby and Lindsey Livingston, Danyel and Angela Longmire, and Morgan and Dixie Beckholt. George's wonderful smile and hearty laughter will be remembered by those who knew him. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 4, 2002 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. His remains will be taken to Mountain Grove, MO for memorial services and burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Hospice Care of Albuquerque, 8100 Constitution Place NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
