Sanchez -- June 24, 1931 - October 4, 2002Refugia T."Cuca" Sanchez was born in Las Nutrias on June 24, 1931 and rejoined our Lord on October 4, 2002. Refugia worked for the Belen Public Schools and retired after 19 years of service. Refugia had a servant's heart and provided care and service to many over the years. She was a faithful wife, devoted mother and loving grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidery and many other crafts. She enjoyed planting and growing flowers. She was infamous for her red chili, posole, tamales, pastelitos, biscochitos, tortillas and papitas. She was also a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. She is survived by her daughter's, Aurora Gonzales and her husband, Edmund, and Bernadette Casamento and her husband, Al; her four grandchildren, Christopher, Francisco, Vincent, and Tristan; her brothers, Charlie Torres and his wife, Mela, Hernandez Torrez and his wife, Ramona; her sisters, Oralia Viapando and her husband, Mike, Rita Baca; her many loving nieces and nephews; her beloved friend, Hermanes Sanchez and children, Dennis Sanchez, Agnes Baca and her husband, Ray, Clarence Sanchez and his wife Sheila, Gina Vallejos and her husband, Ernest and Tiny Ayala and her husband, Jesse; and Herman's many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Refugia was preceded in death by her husband, Quirino A. Carrillo in 1981; her parents, Saturnino and Aurelia Torres; her six brothers, Luciano, Lorenzo, Alfredo, Juan Cruz, and Carlitos Torres; two sisters, Flugencia Baca and Petra Chavez. Pallbearers will be Martin Torres, Christopher La Near, Leo Torres, Herminio Chavez, Dennis Sanchez and Dionicio Salazar. A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2002 at Romero Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. An additional viewing will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church at 5:30 p.m. with a Rosary following at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated with Father David Gallegos officiating and co-celebrant, Deacon Felix Barela on Monday, October 7, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens."If anyone desires to be first, he must be last of all, and servant of all."
