Carney -- Alfred Carney passed away peacefully in Carmichael, CA on September, 30, 2002 of natural causes at the age of 73. He was the beloved husband to Chong Carney as well as a treasured father to four sons; one daughter; six grandchildren; and one brother. Alfred is survived by his children, Michael A. Carney of Stevenson Ranch, CA, Patricia M. Carney of North Hollywood, CA, Jonny L. Carney of Victorville, CA; Stephen C. Carney of Albuquerque and David H. Carney of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Necola, Peter, Michelle, Angelo, Jon Alfred, and Michael d'Angelo. Finally, Alfred is survived by his brother, Melvin Crooks of New York City. Born and raised in New York, Alfred eventually made Sacramento his home and lived in the area for many decades. As a young man, he studied music at Oswego State University in upstate New York. Alfred served honorably for 26 years in the US Air Force. He was a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars where he earned many awards and decorations. Following his Air Force career, Alfred Carney worked as a civil servant in the Office of the Comptroller, Finance Department at McClellan Air Force Base, North Highlands, CA for 20 years. Additionally, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) North Highlands Post and the Tuskegee Airmen, Sacramento Chapter. Alfred was very proud of his children. He worked hard and he played hard during his life. He was always the life of the party. Alfred loved dancing, traveling, the San Francisco 49ers, listening to jazz music, and playing the acoustic bass. Many friends and family attended services on Friday, October 4, 2002 at 2:00 p.m., East Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA to pay their last respects.
