Secrest -- Robert Rae Secrest, Sr., M.D., died Tuesday, October 29, 2002 after a long illness. He was born on October 31, 1924 in Portsmouth, OH to Fred and Gladys Secrest. He attended Miami University and received his medical degree from University of Cincinnati, OH in 1948. During the Korean Conflict he was a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force. He retired from the Air Force Reserve as a Major in 1969. He worked at Lovelace Clinic from 1955 to 1974. While at Lovelace he was part of the physician team who gave physicals to the original Mercury astronauts. Robert continued his education and became board certified in gastroenterology. He went on to be an Associate Professor of Medicine at Texas Tech University in El Paso and Lubbock, TX. Since his retirement he has lived in Peralta, NM. He was an award winning watercolor artist. He was a loving, caring physician, artist, son, husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 56 years, Norma Secrest; his children, Robert R. Secrest, Jr. and companion, Charlotte Mary Toulouse of Albuquerque, Richard M. Secrest and wife, Jennifer of Rio Rancho, Sandra Secrest Hatch and husband, Joseph of Salt Lake City, UT, Victoria Secrest Soto and husband, Humberto of Peralta and Joseph E. Secrest and companion, Samara Serrano of Peralta; grandchildren, Melissa Secrest, Trent Toulouse, Robert E. Hatch, Elizabeth Secrest, William Rae Hatch, Mariah Secrest, Nathan Secrest, Sophia Secrest and Ethan Secrest; and great-grandchildren, Andres and Antonio Secrest. He was a member of Valencia Lutheran Church in Peralta, NM. Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2002, at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Michael OťGrady officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Save the Children, attn: Donor Services, 54 Wilton Rd., P.O.
