Koone -- Willard Koone, 88, born December 8, 1913 in Cleveland, AR passed away December 22, 2001 in Albuquerque. He is survived by his loving wife, Marion of Albuquerque; son, John Koone of San Antonio, TX; daughters, Gail Koone of Albuquerque and Eileen McGuire and her husband, Larry of Penn Valley, CA; grandchildren, Matthew and Brittany Koone of Schulemburg, TX. Willard retired the first time in 1956 as a Lt. Commander after 22 years in the Navy serving in WWII. During his time in the service, he was aboard the USS New York, the destroyers USS John R. Pierce and the USS Epperson, aircraft carriers of the USS Coral Sea and the USS Midway. He was also retired from Sandia National Labs in 1978 after 21 years of service. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club, Mesa Masonic Lodge #68, AF & AM, Albuquerque #1 White Shrine of Jerusalem and the Sojourners. He was an instructor at TVI and loved to hunt and fish. A Memorial Service will be held at the Sombra del Monte Christian Church, 2528 Utah Street NE, Albuquerque on Thursday, December 27, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Willard's name to the New Mexico Boys Ranch, PO Box 5000 Boys Ranch, NM 87002-5000 or the Sombra del Monte Christian Church, 2528 Utah Street NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. A private interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Cremation arrangements by the Sunrise Society of NM, 891-8200.
