Holmes -- Dorothy Ann Biggane Holmes, 78, beloved wife, mother, sister and dear friend to many, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2001 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born on July 20, 1923 in Kemmerer, WY, the last of six children to, John William and Mary Ellen (Daly) Biggane. Dorothy grew up in Kemmerer and then graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1945, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Welfare. A long time resident of Socorro, NM, she volunteered at the Socorro Public Library for many years before becoming Director of the Library in 1968 and retired in 1980. She was appointed to the New Mexico State Board of Education and served for two years. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Charles R. Holmes; son, Ernest W. Holmes of Los Angeles, CA; daughters, Margaret E. Frusciante of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Emily M. Holmes of San Diego, AC; brother, John D. Biggane of Mill Valley, CA; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews here and abroad. Graveside Services will be held at Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen, NM on Saturday, September 8, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Socorro Public Library. Arrangements are under the direction of Steadman-Hall Funeral Home, 309 Garfield, Socorro, NM.
