Connell -- Alice Jewell Connell, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away at her home on January 17, 2001 after a long illness. She was born on November 1, 1916 in Fort Sumner, NM to the late Arthur J. and Blanche (Lefler) Evans. She moved to Elida, NM where she graduated high school. In the early 1940's, she and her daughter, Frances, moved to Albuquerque, where she worked for Sandia National Labs for 20 years. Over the years, Alice was very active in the Camera Club and a lifetime member of the Coronado Club. She was also"mother" to many, many cats. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur Q. Evans and Donald C. Evans, and sister Jeanine Evans. Alice is survived by her daughter, Frances McAbel, of Portland, OR; grandson, John McAbel and his wife, Nancy Pechman, of Vancouver, WA; great-grandson, Ryan McAbel, of Vancouver, WA; sisters, Vivian Watson, of Roswell; and Lucile Dunlap, of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Lenore Evans, of Clovis; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Mergie. A Graveside Service will be performed at Fairview Cemetery, 700 Yale SE, on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Linda Dyer will officiate. The family requests that donations in Alice's name be sent to the American Cancer Society, 5800 Lomas NE, 87110. Strong-Thorne Mortuary is in charge of her arrangements.
