STEWART -- Dr. M. Buren Stewart, 92, former pastor of St. John's United Methodist Church in Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2008. Dr. Stewart, son of S. M. and Katie Stewart, pioneer settlers in territorial New Mexico, was born near Grady, NM on Friday, December 17, 1915. He graduated from Clovis High School and attended Eastern New Mexico University the first two years of its existence, and received his B. A. Degree from Highlands University and completed one half of his masters from the University of New Mexico. On Sunday, August 21, 1938, he married Gladys Ellen Crump of Clovis, NM. Dr. Stewart taught three years at Springer High School and then went to work for "The National Youth Administration." He was principal of Santa Rosa, New Mexico Elementary School when he entered the service in World War II. He served in the 42nd Army (Rainbow) Division. He was in the unit which liberated Dachau Concentration Camp. At the end of World War II, Dr. Stewart began his theological training at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, which he completed at Northwestern University (Garrett Theological) Chicago in 1948. The Stewarts only child, Joseph Martin, was born in Rockford, IL, in 1947. Dr. Stewart served churches which ranged from fewer that 100 members to churches with a membership of over 2,300. He served two six-year terms as District Superintendent in the Carlsbad and El Paso Districts. Other appointments served were Ranchvale, Ruidoso, Eunice, Las Vegas, Odessa, Texas (Highland), Grace Alamogordo and St. Johns' United Methodist Church, Albuquerque. At St. John's, Dr. Stewart, as Senior Pastor for nine years, completed a building program costing almost one million dollars, and retired in 1983. He was a delegate to five Jurisdictional Conferences, Three General Conferences and one World Methodist Conference. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Ellen Crump; his parents; and only siblings, Ruby Rucker and Winnie Briggs. Dr. Stewart is survived by his son, Joseph M. Stewart of Albuquerque; nephews, Gene Rucker and wife, Patty of Hobbs, NM, Terry Stovall and wife, Pam, Wayne Reid and wife, Donna of Clovis, NM; nieces, Lennie and husband, Dr. David Townsend of Alamogordo, Melva and husband, Everette Jaycox of Alto, NM, Carlene S. Briggs of Cloudcroft, NM, Nelva and husband, Wesley Williams, of Hobbs, NM, Sharon and husband, Dr. Merle Benson of Albuquerque, Marla and husband, Mike Wersonick of Edgewood, NM and Jane Rucker of Texas. In addition, Dr. Stewart is survived by several great-nephews and nieces all of whom he was proud. Services will be held Monday, October 13, 2008, 11:00 a.m., at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona NE. Interment will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens, 1601 E. KUELLMER -- Jane Clare Myers Kuellmer, 81, of Las Cruces, NM passed away on September 12, 2008. Jane was born on June 23, 1927 in Flossmoor, IL to Lawrence Stanley and Jane Myers. Jane received her BS in 1950 in Physical Science from the University of Chicago. In 1950, Jane moved to Socorro, NM. She received her Teachers Certificate in 1973 from New Mexico Tech University. She was a licensed Insurance Agent, she served on Governor King's Commission on Aging, she was active in the Episcopal Church and was very active in local politics. Other notible organizations she was included in were the AAUW, Good Samaritan, Red Cross, Socorro Mental Health Foundation Board Member, Socorro Public Library, El Puente, the Socorro General Hospital where she was also a board member, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Sweet Adelines Enchanted Mesa, Square Dancers Club, Civitan, and the NM Tech Community Theater. Jane is survived by her brother and his wife, Lawrence and Janet Myers of Potomac, MD, sister-in-law Bernice Baumann of Chicago, IL. Her children Ellen Kuellmer, Louise Springer, and Lawrence J. Kuellmer and his wife Wanda. Her grandchildren Justin Dehnert, Anthony DiGiacco, Victoria Springer, Melinda Hefner, and Asia Kuellmer. She is preceded in death by her husband Frederick Kuellmer; and daughter Marcia Jane Kuellmer Dehnert. A Memorial Service with Communion will be held on Saturday September 27, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., at The Epiphany Episcopal Church in Socorro, NM. HENSLEY -- Louise Wilson Hensley, 89, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, died Sunday, August 17, 2008. She is survived by her two daughters, Anne Harris and husband, Larry, Barbara Cannon and husband, Malcom; her sister, Joan Wilson Lybyer of Mountain Grove, Missouri; her nephew, Dr. James Lybyer; her niece, Jeanne Knight; four grandsons, Rev. Ftr John Cannon of Springer, NM, David Cannon and wife, Stephanie of Olive Branch, MS, Daniel Cannon and wife, Robin of Mancos, CO, and Aaron Harris of Frisco, TX. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren. Louise was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Benny Hensley, and her parents Bert and Bertha Wilson of Mountain Grove, MO. After graduating high school at 16, she attended an eight week summer session in teaching methods at Southwest Missouri State College, the fall found her teaching her first classes in a rural school, grades one through eight, at a salary of 60 dollars per month. In 1953, the family moved to Albuquerque, NM where she taught in the Albuquerque Public Schools for 33 years, ten years at Longfellow Elementary, ten years at Bel Air Elementary and 13 years as Special Education Diagnostician. In 1968, she was chosen by the Classroom Teacher's Association as the Albuquerque Teacher of the Year. She earned her Master's Degree at the University of New Mexico. Benny and Louise were among the first to introduce the registered Missouri Foxtrotting horse into New Mexico. ELY -- Daniel (Dan) Ely, 84, finished his full and successful life June 26, 2008 at his home on Nettles Island, FL with his devoted and beloved wife, Betty, at his side. Dan was born September 15, 1923 in Chicago, IL to George and Josephine Ely. He is survived by wife Betty; step-daughter Terry Dean and husband John of Houston, TX. Six children from his marriage with Katy Lou McIntosh: David Ely, Todd Ely and wife, Terry, Melissa Ely Martinez and husband, Louis, all of Albuquerque, Erin Ely and Doug Bielefeldt of Eugene OR; Therese Ely-Schmitter and husband, Dan of Seattle, WA, and Laura Ely of San Francisco, CA; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister Joanne McIntosh of San Jose, CA and cousin Stan Reinisch of Chicago, IL. Private services were held in Florida. Dan graduated from High School and the Sea Scouts in Chicago and moved to Albuquerque during the 1940s to attend UNM. While at UNM, he played football and served in the Navy ROTC and made many long-lasting friendships. He graduated and received his Navy commission and was stationed in the Pacific during WWII and remained in the Navy Reserve for many years after returning home. He soon found he enjoyed sales and made a career in automobile retailing that led to his operating the Dan Ely Buick GMC Honda auto dealership in Albuquerque. He had particular interest in the RV industry including manufacturing a line of pickup campers. He was active in both the New Mexico and National Automobile Dealers Associations and GMC Dealer Advisory Board, serving on the boards and on many committees. Also, during his time in Albuquerque, he was active in the community with the Republican Party, particularly the Dave Cargo for Governor Campaign as Chairman and Treasurer; and Co-Chair of the Governor's Inaugural Committee. He also was a member of the UNM Lobo Club where he served on committees and was especially supportive of Coach Bob King and the UNM Men's Basketball program. Dan was appointed to the Board of the New Mexico Springer Boys School. He continued these activities until he sold his business and semi retired to Florida. In Florida, he was active in his community on Nettles Island (an RV Condominium vacation community), elected to the Nettles Island HOA Board and served on the St. Lucie County Code Enforcement Board. He continued his sales career on a semi-retired basis in Condominium sales and tried to wear out his boat and fishing gear by fishing as much as possible. Just as in Albuquerque, Dan made many friends on Nettles Island. Our husband, father and friend will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. He also was a member of the UNM Lobo Club where he served on committees and was especially supportive of Coach Bob King and the UNM Men's Basketball program. Dan was appointed to the Board of the New Mexico Springer Boys School. He continued these activities until he sold his business and semi retired to Florida. EGLEY -- Mary Egley died Friday, April 4, 2008, of Lung Cancer at her daughter's home in Beaverton, Oregon. Mary Egley was born January 12, 1930, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She married Robert Egley in 1952. He died in 2000. Survivors include her two daughters, Beth Pomplun, Patty Van Antwerp; granddaughters, Eve Foster and Amy Van Antwerp; five great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Edmund Irigoyen, Raymond Irigoyen; sisters Josephine Lasswell and Delores Nixon. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Quintet Condos in the Piano Room 6695 West Burnside - Portland, Oregon 97210 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. MOUNTAIN -- BEATRICE Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 15, 2008 for Bea Mountain, an almost 60 year resident of Belen. Mrs. Mountain, as many people called her, passed away March 11, 2008 at a Belen nursing home after an extended illness. Born January 21, 1912, in Kinsley, Kansas, Bea Lengel worked as a seamstress before her marriage to Samuel Fiske Mountain in 1936. Fiske and Bea met when Bea accompanied Fiske who was an accomplished violist. Bea was also an accomplished musician who played the pipe organ at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Wichita, Kansas, starting at the age of 16. Following their marriage, Bea and Fiske lived in Kansas until moving to the Raton and Springer area in the early 1940s. Bea and Fiske arrived in Belen in 1949 where he was the orchestra and bandleader for the Belen schools. Fiske passed away in 1969. Bea taught private piano lesson in her home for years, teaching hundreds of students who fondly remember her. In addition, Bea played at most of the churches in Belen as well as for the Belen Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge and Rainbow Girls. She was the Grand Organist for the State of New Mexico and also served as Worthy Matron for the Magdalena Eastern Star. She is survived by her children, Patricia Bullard and husband, Phil; Susan Myers and husband, Bruce; John Mountain and wife, Joy; Jeanne Abbott and husband, Jim; Samuel Mountain and wife, Sherri; and Nancy Huning and husband, Louis; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn Pitts of Wichita; and one brother, Herbert Lengel of Glen Carbon, Illinois. A viewing will be held at the First Baptist Church of Los Chavez, on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Boyd Morerod officiating. Interment will follow at the Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen Pallbearers will be Mike Buxton, Brian Lengel, Jason Mountain, Louie Huning, Jr., Adam Gonzalez and Clayton Stallings.
