HUBBARD -- Wayne Hubbard. A Memorial Service will be held for Wayne Hubbard at the First United Methodist Church, 1800 Red Rock Drive, Gallup, NM at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2005. Scattering of the ashes will take place in the Alamitos near the Pecos Wilderness in August. Wayne Elmo Hubbard, 84, lost his battle with throat cancer on Wednesday, June 15, 2005. He was born on September 6, 1920 in Thatcher, AZ, the third of nine children to Rollin and Jennie Hubbard. While Wayne was a young child, the family moved to Gila, NM. Father and sons worked as hunter guides, blacksmiths, miners, manual laborers and cowboys. Wayne often worked for the US Forest Service, building trails and fighting fire in the Gila Wilderness, camping for weeks or months at a time. He developed skills in this environment which shaped the rest of his life. He worked with horses most of his early life. Horses, camping and fishing were Wayne's life long loves. After Wayne graduated from Cliff High School in 1938, he moved to Morenci, AZ, to work as a blacksmith in the copper smelter. Six months to the minute after Pearl Harbor, Wayne was sworn into the US Navy. He served in the Pacific Theater and took part in several beach landings. He advanced to the rank of Boatswains Mate First Class and served until 1946. After an Honorable Discharge, Wayne attended New Mexico State University under the G.I. Bill majoring in aviation mechanics and working as a truck driver and mechanic to support himself. Here he met and married Jeannette Spless. Wayne was recalled into the navy when their first child, Lina was four months old. He served in Korea for a year before returning home and completing college. He and Jeannette had two more children, Marian and Benjamin. He completed a B.A. in industrial arts and education and M.A. in educational administration. Wayne served youth, his communities and state of New Mexico for 29 years. He was a teacher and principal at New Mexico Boys' School in Springer. He was counselor, assistant principal and principal of Gallup High School retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Elks club. Wayne is survived by his wife, Jeannette; a daughter, Marian Hubbard; a granddaughter, Katherine Gould; a grandson, Jared DeMarais; sister, Fern Utton; five brothers, Hugh, Owen, Harold, Grant and Gary and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; a brother, Marion; a sister, Ruth Hulsey; a daughter, Lina Gould Heacock; and son, Benjamin. Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Building Fund or a charity of your choice. The family's heartfelt thanks goes to Hospice. ALEXANDER -- Jessie Mae Messick Alexander, 90, a Colfax County Pioneer and Educator, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at the Colfax General Long Term Care in Springer, NM. She is survived by her sons, Raymond L. "Lin" Alexander and wife, Sharon, of Cochiti Lake and P. Robert "Bob" Alexander and wife Carol of Santa Fe; grandsons, Robert Kaleo Alexander, Ben Alexander, and Adam Alexander; granddaughter, Noelle Alexander; sisters, Fern Randall and husband, Gregg, of Las Cruces, NM, Nita Rosso of Santa Cruz, CA; brothers, E.P. Messick and wife, Betty, of Dexter, NM, Norman Messick and wife, Pearl, of Commerce, TX., Harlan Messick and wife Gaylia, of Boerne, TX; aunts, Vergie Jackson of Hobbs, NM and Geneva Langford of Wellington, TX; and numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Jessie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse P. Messick and Elsie Langford Messick and her brother-in-law, Dino Rosso. She was born on December 11, 1914 in Wellington, TX and moved to New Mexico in a covered wagon when she was just one year old. Jessie Mae was raised on a ranch near Abbott, NM and graduated from Newton High School. She attended Texas Tech University where she obtained a B.A. in History, in 1938. Jessie Mae later obtained a Masters in Education, in 1951, from Highlands University. She served in the WAC during World War II. Mrs. Alexander taught school at Cottonwood School near Wellington, TX and in several Colfax County Schools including Johnson Mesa, and a one room school in Abbott and Raton. She was elected to the office of Colfax County Superintendent of Schools for the final term of office in 1955. Mrs. Alexander then taught school in Albuquerque for 24 years primarily at Kirtland Elementary. She was a long time member and active in many activities at Central United Methodist Church in Albuquerque, as well as Delta Kappa Gamma. Mrs. Alexander lived several years at Ponce de Leon Retirement Center in Santa Fe and most recently at the Colfax General Long Term Care Facility in Springer. Services will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper Ave. NE, Saturday, May 21, 2005, 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Springer Cemetery in Springer, NM. MADRID -- Tony Madrid was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on May 1, 1921, to Juan Madrid and Refugio Encinias, and left this world to be with the LORD on May 7, 2005 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving "honita" Virginia, his wife of 59 years, and his brother, Miguel, of Springer, New Mexico, and six children, Anthony Madrid, of Albuquerque; Frances Butler, of Columbia, SC; Lawrence Madrid, of Bakersfield, CA; Rita Warren of Canyon Lake, CA; Ernie Madrid of Bakersfield, CA and Irene Madrid, of Temecula, CA. He also had two loving sons-in-law, Jerry Butler, and John Warren; and two daughters-in-law, Linda Madrid and Rita Madrid. Tony leaves behind 10 grandchildren; Rick, Ramon, Becky, Erica, Jon, Michael, Jennifer, Amy, Justin, and Nicole; six great-grandchildren; Joshua, Kenadie, Morgan, Lexie, Hope, and Logan, and numerous nieces, and nephews; too many to list. He was preceded in death by great-grandson, Matthew. He was in the medical corps during WWII. He retired from McDonald-Douglas in Long Beach, CA after 30 years of service. He moved to Albuquerque in 1983 and enjoyed being a crossing guard for 16 years at John Baker Elementary School. The family would like to express their loving thoughts and special thanks to the staff of Presbyterian Hospice, and to Doctor Malcolm Purdy. Also, the family would like to acknowledge the loving support shown by his niece, Barbara Montoya. MANIRE -- Mary Helen Manire, 73, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2005. She has been a resident of Albuquerque since 1956. Mary was born to Boone and Helen Killgore in Sweetwater, TX on January 5, 1932. She was predeceased by their son, Michael. She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Bill Manire; her daughter, Holly; son-in-law, David Brown; and grandchildren, Austin Brown and Erin Brown of Flower Mound, TX; brother, Mark Killgore of Dallas and his wife, Joanne; brother, Joe Killgore and wife, Charlene of Maryneal, TX; and many nieces and nephews. A graduate of Texas Tech University, Mary came to New Mexico in 1953 to teach Home Economics at Springer High School. After moving to Albuquerque, she was a Home Economist for PNM and served as Head of that department for a time. Very active in church and civic organizations, Mary served on the boards of The Storehouse, The Chaparral Home and Adoption Agency, was President of Albuquerque Church Women United and in 1999 was awarded the Valiant Women Award by that organization. She served as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship and was a member of Chapter BH of PEO. For 40 years she has served her church in various capacities, including being co-editor of the church newsletter, Financial Secretary and participating in many committees. Mary loved travel, genealogy, handwork and grandchildren. Memorial Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at Los Altos Christian Church, 11900 Haines NE, Rev. Christopher Wilson presiding (near Juan Tabo and Indian School Rd.). Cremation has taken place. Those who wish to do so may make contributions to Los Altos Christian Church, designating them to the Mary Manire Memorial Fund, 11900 Haines NE, 87112.

JONES -- David C. Jones, age 50, passed away on March 18, 2005. He was born on January 29, 1955 in Ankara, Turkey. He was the oldest son of Craig S. Jones and Regina V. Jones. He is survived by a sister, Karen M. Jones; and a brother, Jeffery N. Jones both of Albuquerque. David was employed at Sandia Laboratories and was a recipient of two distinguished awards for his achievements. He retired from the New Mexico Air National Guard. He was the youngest Staff Sergeant in the entire National Air Guard Bureau. He was awarded two commendations medals and a Meritorious Service Medal. He retired with rank of Master Sergeant. The greatest highlight in his life was to go aboard President J.F.K.'s plane at age 8. History and geology were of great interest. He was an avid reader. He loved to ride his motorcycles, working with wood and ornamental iron was his enjoyment. He adored his two dogs, a springer spaniel and a spinone. He was a fantastic cook. There's not much he could not do. He will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place and private services were held.
