Hammond -- Alta Curry Hammond, January 17, 1914-April 24, 2000, a long time New Mexico resident started a new journey on Monday. Born in Alva, Oklahoma of A.A. and Golden Curry, she was blessed to be one of twelve children (including three sets of twins). She grew up in Clayton, NM, but like most of the family, she left the area for other places. She helped out in the WWII effort as a"Rosie the Riviter" in California and later returned to New Mexico where she became a nurse and helped many families care for their children. This is how she met her husband, W. Ernest Hammond, who preceded her in death in 1988. She is survived by her children, Mary Lynne Brunner and husband, Melvin of Gallup, NM and Ray W. Hammond and wife, Bonnie of Albuquerque; three brothers, Foy M. Curry and wife, Laralee of Albuquerque, Ray Curry and wife, Billie of Flora Vista, NM and Roy Curry and wife, Nancy of Albuquerque (the latter two being twins); grandson, Brant C. Brunner of Mesa, AZ, granddaughter, Caitlin Ashley Hammond of Albuquerque; and countless nieces and nephews scattered throughout the western United States. Each and every one was very important to her, all in their own special way. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Women's Golf Association at the Albuquerque Country Club. She enjoyed everything from riding a horse to playing golf, bridge and in recent years"Skip-Bo". She leaves behind so many dear friends that it would take another column to mention them all-suffice it to say she loved you all dearly. Her family and close friend, Steven Loveless were with her at her all important moment. She enjoyed giving more than receiving and in that spirit please give to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000 in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave SE, with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating. Johnson -- Ivory Deon Johnson, 27, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Rehoboth McKinley Christian Hospital in Gallup. Visitation will be Friday afternoon, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Baca's Funeral Chapel, where the Prayer Vigil will begin at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 29 at 10:00 a.m. in the morning at Baca's Funeral Chapel with Fr. David Bentley, Pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church, officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery with Veterans Honors by Grant County Veterans Organizations. Ivory was born October 1, 1972 in Dallas County, Texas to Charles and Charles Etta Johnson. He was a graduate of Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, where he received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science in May, 1999. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Kuwait during Desert Storm. Ivory was currently sales manager at Palm Harbor Homes in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife, Meisha Catherine Seats Johnson of Rio Rancho; his son, Dillon Ivory Johnson of Phoenix, AZ; his unborn son, Darrel Deon Johnson of Rio Rancho; his mother, Charles Etta Johnson of Seattle, WA; three brothers, Clifford Johnson of Dallas, TX, Jimron Johnson, his wife, Brenda, Galen Johnson and his wife, Amanda, all of Seattle, WA; one sister, Laterria Johnson of Seattle, WA; his in-laws, Darrel and Cathy Seats of Deming; brothers-in-law, Terry Seats and Kasey Seats of Deming, Kris Seats of Coolidge, AZ; a sister-in-law, Lisa LoPresti of Whitestone, NY; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Johnson and his maternal grandmother, Evangelist Charlzine B. Davidson. Lucero -- Mrs. Estella Lucero, 91, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on April 27, 2000 at home with her loved ones at her side. Mrs. Lucero was the beloved wife of 57 years to Mr. Luis Lucero. She is also survived by her daughter, Mrs. Adelia Martinez and husband, Chano; three sisters, Elvira Gonzales, Mary Lucero and Agneda Lucero; one brother, Juan Lucero and wife, Avelina; three grandchildren, Joseph Martinez, Nathaniel Valdez and Marisa Valdez; special friend and caregiver, Amidita Contreras; several nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Lucero was a member of the Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday evening in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Mrs. Gabriella Nieto. Final visitation and Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 300 Mildred (4th and Mildred) NW, date and time to be announced. Interment will be at the Mt. Mckee -- John DeWitt (Jack) McKee, age 80, a resident of Socorro since 1959, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife, Jeannette of Socorro; brother, Donald P. McKee of Kerrville, TX; sister-in-law, Helen McKee of Philadelphia, PA; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mendez -- Juan Mendez, 69, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died Thursday, April 27, 2000. He is survived by his children, Don P. Mendez of Portland, OR, Alisa A. Kauffman and husband, Greg of Albuquerque, John T. Mendez of Superior, CO, and Michael J. Mendez of San Francisco, CA; former spouse, Carol A. Cassell-Mendez of Atlanta, GA; grandsons, Justin Kauffman, and Max Kauffman, both of Albuquerque; sisters, Ernestina Corrasco of Rio Rancho, and Emilia Castillo and husband, Fernando of El Paso, TX; former spouse, Elizabeth Wills of Albuquerque; and stepsons, Neil Christensen and wife, Lisette of St. Louis, MO, and Thayer Christensen of San Diego, CA. Montano -- Cresenciana M. Montano, age 85, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, has departed this world to join our Lord Jesus Christ, Thursday, April 27, 2000. Mrs. Montano was a lifelong resident of New Mexico; an Albuquerque resident since 1957; and a parishioner of San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roque Montano. She is survived by her loving children, son, Bailon Montano; three daughters, Della Garcia and husband, Orlando, Lucella Gonzales and husband, Rey, Tommie Blea and husband, Bernie; two grandsons that she raised, Bailon Montano Jr. and Roque Montano; and ten other grandchildren, Orlando, Annabel, Daniel, John, Lorenzo, Michelle, Jennifer, Monica, Lorencita and Rey Jr.; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Alfonso Manzanares and wife, Lilia; two sisters, Loretta Flores and Margarita Lovato. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. Visitations will be Sunday, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the chapel of Garcia Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited Sunday evening, 7:00 p.m., at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:00 a.m. also at the church. Mounds -- John James Mound III, died on April 25, 2000. He was an especially loving son to Jay and Kathy, and adored by Tyler, his little brother. His biggest desire was to be able to return home to live with his family and be able to interact with all members of his extended family. He was a talented boy and aspired to resume full participation in his education, employment, and live an ordinary life. He had a passion for nature and all of its beauty and loved to feel the wind in his face. Jon was a gifted athlete, especially in basketball and soccer. Always a team player, he displayed sportsmanship, win or lose. Seldom has there been a child who was loved so much by so many in so short a life. Loving survivors include his parents, John"Jay" James Mound II and Kathryn Lynn Mound; brother, Tyler Marcial Montgomery Mound; great-grandmother, Vina Atencio; great-great-aunt, Vangie Huchamala and husband, Archie and family; grandparents, John"Jack" James Mound I and wife, Betty, Suzann Trout, Kelo Martinez and Antoinette Sanchez, and Anna Belle Miller and husband, Rod. He is also survived by aunts, Karen"Marie" Mound and daughter, Lindsay, Shannon Bonness and husband, Rik and sons, Eric and Alex, Suzy Mound and son, Nathan, Deanna Firebaugh and husband, Jeffery and children, Erika and Hunter, and Karen Kelly and daughter, Kristina; and an uncle, Lee Kittell and wife, Frances and children, Callen and Heidi. Surviving great-aunts include Carol Perkins and husband, Marvin and children, Ron and Tammy, and the children of Elizabeth Atencio, who preceded John James in death, Eugenia, Joseph and Tessie, Rosemary De La O and husband, Leo, Josie Counce and husband, Dwayne and children, Chuck, Michael and Joni. Surviving great-uncles include Archie Atencio and children, Jessica and Thomas, Melvin Atencio and children, Anthony, Melanie, and Matthew, Leonard Atencio and wife, Denise and daughter, Jamie, Delfie Atencio and children, Michael, Delouise and Andrew, Johnny Atencio and wife, Nelly and children, Scott and Robinson, Joseph Atencio and wife, Karen and children, Jolene and Matthew, Anthony Atencio, Michael Atencio and children, Michael J. and Aaron, and Dick Mound and wife, Carol and sons, Rick and Sean. Also surviving is a special friend, Serina Robinette and many special friends whose lives were touched by John. Nieman -- Charles E. Nieman, age 76, died Monday afternoon, April 25, 2000, at his home in Santa Fe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mercedes; brother, Larry B. Nieman; and his sister, Helen A. Nieman. Mr. Nieman was born April 11, 1924 in Trinidad, CO, the son of the late Charles A. and Dora (Yuszkiewich) Nieman. He was a lifelong resident of New Mexico. A graduate of Santa Fe High School (Class of 1942), Mr. Nieman served in the Pacific Theater in the US Navy during World War II. Returning from the war, he joined the Mountain Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company. He ultimately retired from the company as a supervisor in 1976, following the death of his beloved wife, Mercedes. He is survived by his four children, Charles L. of Kent, OH, Michael B. of Albuquerque, Karen A. Aragon of Parker, CO, and Randall T. of Santa Fe. He is also survived by seven grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 1, 10:00 a.m., at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at St. Francis Cathedral. Interment will be private and will be accomplished at a later date when all family members can be present. Nolasco -- Flora (Baba) Nolasco, age 57, beloved and devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend, was called home to be with the Lord, Thursday, April 27, 2000. Baba, as everyone knew her, was born on July 17, 1942 in Albuquerque; she was a lifelong resident of Alameda; a parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, and a member of the American Legion, Post 69, Lady's Auxiliary. Baba was a caring, helpful and fun person, who enjoyed family get-togethers and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Maria Nolasco. She is survived by her two loving children, Elisa (Lisa) Nolasco and Samuel (Sammy) Nolasco, both of the family home; her father, Meliton Nolasco also of the family home; two sisters, Dorothy Santillanes and husband, Andrew of Albuquerque and Rosemary Paez and husband, Rey of Belen; four brothers, Rudy Nolasco and wife, Ramona of Albuquerque, Meliton Nolasco Jr. and wife, Rosemarie, Florence Nolasco and Armida, Bill Nolasco and wife, Diane, all of California; two very special friends who stood by her side, Jeanette Saiz and Darlene LeChuga; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other friends. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and those who loved and knew her.
