NANCE -- Virginia G. Nance, 79, loving wife and mother and longtime resident of Albuquerque, quietly passed away on December 1, 2007 after a long illness. Mrs. Nance was born on August 10, 1928 in Salt Lake City, UT. She and her mother survived the great depression and World War II after the death of her father in 1930. After her schooling she worked for the Department of the Navy and the Bureau of Reclamation. She moved to Gallup, NM and owned a successful business. She and her family later lived in Zuni, NM and Farmington, NM before moving to Albuquerque. Virginia Nance loved her family and her pets and got great joy from helping others who were unable to help themselves. Virginia recognized the plight and problems Native Americans were facing long before the government recognized them. Virginia worked tirelessly to solicit donations of clothing and household article which she then delivered to remote locations reservations to make sure those in most need received them first. Like St. Francis, Virginia loved all creatures great and small. She would insure that every animal around her house always had plenty to eat and drink year round. She was a genuine example of kindness and love, and she was never at a loss for a smile. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Walter (Bill); sons, Michael Nance, David Nance and wife, Reva; a sister-in-law, Rosie Nance; a nephew, Richard and wife, Suzanne. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations should be made in Virginia's memory to the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico, 615 Virginia Street SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108-4228, 505-255-5523.
