SMOKER -- John Joseph Smoker, 77, died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at his home in Santa Fe. Dr. Smoker is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; his brother, Stanford; and by his children: Ingrid Graves, Sandra Snow and husband, Matt, Eric Smoker, Jay Thompson and wife, Jennifer, Kurt Smoker, Bret Smoker and wife, Yolanda, Mikal Ann Smoker and husband, Howard Diaz, Mandy Peters and husband, Daron, Marci Segura and husband, Steven, David Smoker and wife, Shari, and James Thompson and wife, Dawn. He was also blessed with numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at First Baptist Church on Old Pecos Trail in Santa Fe with a funeral service immediately following. VIGIL -- Antonio J. Vigil (93) Our beloved father died peacefully on December 4, 2007 surrounded by his family and friends. He was born October 24, 1914 in Pajarito, NM. A longtime resident of Espanola, NM. Has lived the past 13 years in Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Trinnie, after 67 years of marriage who died on April 12, 2007. He is survived by his four children, Delia Tucker, Priscilla Lopes, Gilbert Vigil and wife Gina, Dolores Shawver; and son-in-law, Robert Lopes, all of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by his brothers, Rudolfo (bob-o) and wife Lusita Vigil, Manuel and wife Mary Vigil; sister Lucia Serna; and sister-in-law Esther Vigil. Also his eight grandchildren and their mates, Terri and Edwin Quintana, Jeffrey and Vikki Howell, David Tucker, Daniel Tucker, Joel and Janna Lopes, Trisha Lopes, Blake and Rochelle Shawver and Vanessa Shawver. Also seven great-grandchildren: Zachary Quintana, Brooke Quintana, Amber Tucker, Austin Tucker, Jorah Tucker, Derek Harrison and Hunter Lopes. Also a vast number of spiritual children. He was preceded in death by his brothers Claudio, Teofilo and Herminio Vigil as well as his parents, Anastacio and Sofia Vigil and his grandson, Stephen Tucker. He will always be remembered as a Kind and Humble Servant of Jehovah, and exemplary father, a beloved brother and true friend to many. He loved working the land especially growing chili and making chicharones on his wood stove. His hope is to one day be young again in a paradise Earth and work the land once again, we will look forward to welcoming him back at that time when death and sorrow will be no more. ORCHANT -- Marc Sherman Orchant, 50, passed away suddenly Sunday, December 9, 2007. He was born on July 30, 1957 in Freeport, NY to Norman and Glenda Orchant. Marc attended Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Communication, where he majored in Linguistics and Graphic Design. It was there he met and fell in love with his wife Sue. Upon graduating, Marc intended to move to the Bay Area, but stopped in New Mexico to visit his parents. He skiied, ate green chili and was hooked on the Land of Enchantment. He thought he would live in Albuquerque for a few years and then go on from there; twenty-eight years later, this is still home. Sue joined him soon after and the rest is history. They were married June 6, 1982 and just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this summer. They brought two exceptional children into the world, Rebecca Sarah in 1984, and Jason Samuel in 1991. Marc's family was his universe, everything he did was for them and his face immediately lit up anytime he spoke of them. In addition to his devoted wife, Sue; he is also survived by his son, Jason; his daughter, Rebecca and her boyfriend, Sean; his mother, Glenda; father, Norman; brother, Ed and his wife, Allison; nephew, Matthew; niece, Danielle; brother, Craig and his wife, Sue; nephew, Sam; niece, Emily; sister, Alison and her husband, Mitch; his in-laws, Jay and Ina Birch; brother in-law, Jeff and his wife, Ellen; niece, Alyssa; brother in-law, Jamie and his wife, Gail; and many other relatives and countless friends and colleagues also mourn his passing. Marc was held in high regard by all in the technology world. He wrote a book for Microsoft, lectured at technology conventions, consulted, and was about to embark on the job of a lifetime with the David Allen Company. He preferred to describe his profession as simply "storyteller". One of Marc and Sue's favorite things to do was to see live music. Together, they toured with the Grateful Dead, attended many music festivals, danced for hours and collected volumes and volumes of stories. He always shared these happy times surrounded by their countless and dear friends. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2007, 11:00 a.m., at Congregation Albert, 3800 Louisiana Blvd. NE. A celebration of his life will take place at a future date to be determined. PORTER -- William I. "Bill" Porter, 85, passed away Saturday, November 24, at his home in the Manzano mountains. He is survived by his good friend Jill Anderson; his daughter Carroll, her husband David; and his grandchildren Robyn, Christopher and Matthew. Bill was born in Bingham Canyon, UT. He worked as a tool and die maker in a torpedo factory in Washington state during WWII. He later moved to China Lake, CA, and then to Albuquerque, where he owned and operated Acoma Corporation, a machine shop specializing in precision metal fabrication. A master woodworker, Bill enjoyed traveling in his RV and spending time at his mountain home. Bill was a Mason and a longtime member of Ballut Abayd Shrine's Alb-A-Kar Unit. A Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 13, at Mesa Lodge #68, 529 Chama St. NE, in Albuquerque. ROCCO -- Lucy L. Rocco, age 98, and a long time resident of New Mexico, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2007. She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Elvira, Tilly, and Eloisa; her daughter, Corina and her two sons-in-law, Angel Vasquez and Edward Adams. Lucy is survived by her five children, daughter, Edna and three sons, Joe and wife, Mary Ann, Ernest and wife, Pat, Van and wife, Patsy, Tomas and wife, Jennie; four sisters; one brother; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; other family members and friends who loved and will miss her. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at Paseo del Norte and Wyoming NE. THOMAS -- Maida Lee Thomas, 91, passed away Monday, December 10, 2007. A longtime resident of Taos, Maida moved to Albuquerque in 1961. She worked for 30 years as a clerk and stenographer for the United States Forest Service. Ms. Thomas is survived by her sons, George (Martha) Thomas of Mountainair, Robert (Pamela) Thomas of El Dorado Hills, CA, and David (Cheryl) Thomas of Mission Hills, CA; daughters-in-law, Beverly Thomas and Fay Thomas, both of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Michael Thomas, Linda Thomas, Cynthia Miller, Deborah Weidner, John Thomas, Kimberly Carvin, Jeffery Thomas, Leanne Thomas, Heather Smith, and Chelsea Thomas; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Thomas, whom she married June 1, 1935; sons, Ralph Lee Thomas and John Franklin Thomas; and grandson, Darrell Lee Thomas; and sister, Marjorie Bruington. GRIEGO -- Charles Toby Griego, 74, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on December 7, 2007, and is now Heaven with our Lord. Mr. Griego is the beloved husband to Mrs. Mary Frances Griego, married for 53 years. Mr. Griego is survived by his loving children, Carlos T. and his wife, Michelle, Patricio L., Gloria J., Andrew A. and wife, Debra, Daniel J. and Susan C.; a sister, Virginia Moles and husband Allen; two bothers, Louis Griego and wife Veronica, Joe Griego and wife, Armeda; his grandchildren, Desiree Martinez, Charmain Jojola, Jennifer Griego, Sal Jerome Martinez, Jeanette Griego, Elena Griego, Vincent Serna and Rachel Griego; nine great-grandchidren. Mr. Griego was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara A. Martinez. Mr. Griego was a member of the Catholic Church and a Veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp serving in the Korean Confict. Visitation for Mr. Griego was Monday morning from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos NW, with Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Father Aragon. Burial followed at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with Military Honors by the U.S. Marine Corp. Paul graduated from Valley High School in 1970. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilfred Serna and brother, Phillip R. Serna. Paul is survived by his mother, Justine S. Serna; wife, Marjie R.
