Johnson -- Tomasita"Tommie" B. Johnson, 82, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, a longtime resident of Jemez Springs and a resident of Albuquerque for four years, died Friday, June 2, 2000. She is survived by her sons, Raymond T. Johnson and wife, Lorraine of Flagstaff, AZ, Melvin L. Johnson Sr. and wife, Virginia of Pleasonton, CA; daughter, Irene Patterson and husband, Johnny of Robertsdale, AL; step-sons, Clarence D. Johnson Jr. and wife, Ann of Calexico, CA, Perry E. Johnson and wife, Toni of Los Altos, CA, Larry Johnson and wife, Lena of El Sobrante, CA; step-daughter, June Cardwell of Chapparell, NM; brothers, Benny Barela and wife, Tillie of Flagstaff, AZ, Willie Barela of Durango, CO; sister, Lucinda Salazar of Camp Verde, AZ; 18 grandchildren and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Douglas Johnson Sr.; brothers, George and Tom Barela; and sisters, Mary Puttman and Marion Ortiz. She managed the Mineral Bathhouse in Jemez Springs for many years. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Jemez Springs. Memorial services at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Jemez Springs are pending. Khalsa -- Avtar Kaur Khalsa (AKA Effie McLean Greeley), 59, passed away peacefully at home in Santa Fe, NM on Mother's Day, Sunday May 14th. Preceded in death by her parents, Jean Bass and Avriett A. McLean, she is survived by her husband, Philip H. Greeley, MD; her son, Parmatma Singh Greeley, a medical student at U. of Pittsburgh; her son, Siri Atma, an MD/PhD candidate at U. of PA, and wife, Kara White Greeley, MD, a Family Practice resident at Thomas Jefferson U.; her sister, Jean M. and husband, David MacLachlan of San Francisco, CA; and her brother, Alex McLean of Enola, PA. Born and raised in NYC, Avtar attended Nightingale Bamford and graduated from the Spence School. She completed a degree in Economics at Columbia Univ., where she met her husband. Avtar was a social activist and educator who, while living in Little Rock, AR, directed a Head Start program that served the working poor. After moving to Albuquerque, NM in 1971, Avtar received her Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from UNM and was working toward her PhD. Seeing a need for progressive educational opportunities for children, in 1976 she founded the Asbury Community School with Bernice Ledden. Later known as Amritsar Academy, the school was a K-12 private, non-parochial choice for those who wished to challenge their children to excel, regardless of educational or socio-economic background. A tireless worker, Avtar saw the potential in people and used her charisma and great sense of humor to inspire them to realize that potential. Lobato -- Mrs. Rebecca S. Lobato died Saturday at her home in Albuquerque at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband, Abenicio Lobato. She is survived by her children, Sophie Fernandez, Frances Frank and husband, Ray, Gilbert Lovato and wife, Eleanor, Faustin Lovato and wife, Anita, Albert Lovato and wife, Mona, Bobby Lovato and wife, Virginia, Emily Foster and husband, Mike, Eli Lovato and wife, Judy; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Lobato will be held on Tuesday at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony Fernandez, Manny Fernandez, Andrew Frank, Rick Frank, Joe Lovato, Robert Lovato Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be David Fernandez, Ray Frank Jr., Faustin Lovato Jr., Johnny Peralta, Andrew Peralta, Nathan Peralta. Martin -- Mary Martin, age 87, died peacefully Wednesday morning, May 31, 2000, at La Vida Llena, in Albuquerque, where she had lived for the past dozen years. Her whimsical sense of humor and quick wit entertained us over the years, and her kindness to others and concern for them was a blessing. She is survived by her sons, Robert Martin and Rick Martin of Albuquerque; daughter, Betsy Martin of Saint Paul; her dear friend, Pat Suhr of Albuquerque; and granddaughters, Kristin Martin and Amy Page and their families; and grandsons, Spencer Martin and Jeff Martin. Mary was born in Schenectady, NY, married Roger Martin of Ames, Iowa, lived for many years in the Twin Cities area, then Scottsdale, and then Albuquerque. We are sure she will be happy joining her loved ones in Heaven and being able to return to golf and bridge, where the par is low and cards are perfect. A Memorial service will be held in Carter Hall at La Vida Llena (296-6700, 10501 Lagrima de Oro NE) on Monday, June 5, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. Mary did not die of cancer, but did wish that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, in her name, in lieu of flowers, or other memorials. Sunrise Society is serving the family of Mrs. Martin, (891-8200).

Mccarty -- Donna Dawes McCarty passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 23. She was 40 years old. She is survived by her son, Laurin Dawes of Murray, KY; two daughters, Michol Gonzales of Albuquerque and Billie McCarty of Bernalillo; grandson, Carlos Renteria of Albuquerque; mother, Cora Dawes; and brothers, Ron and Rick Dawes, all of Danville, IN. Donna was recently preceded in death by her dad, Larry Dawes. She is also survived by her close friends, Sam, Ron and Jack of Las Vegas, NV. No services are planned.

Padilla -- Loving Mother, Widow Lena Maria Padilla, born April 25, 1910, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday morning, May 25, 2000. She was the daughter of the late Mrs. Ernestine Crispin Brown and is survived by her only son, Daniel D. Padilla. Mrs. Padilla's remains were cremated. Memorial services to be announced. Loved and deeply missed by all.

Palmer -- Janet M. Palmer passed away June 1, 2000 at the age of 90. She was a retired school teacher. Mrs. Palmer is survived by two nieces, Jean LaBarbera of Tallahassee, FL and Janice Farmer of Laurel Hills. FL; she also is survived by longtime friends, Mr. & Mrs. Herbert Lamkin of San Antonio. Graveside services will be conducted 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 5, 2000 at Sunset Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Albuquerque, NM, under the direction of Garcia Mortuary.

Pool -- Lloyd Pool, 80, an Albuquerque resident of 13 years, died Saturday, June 3, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Pool of the family home; daughter, Kathryn P. Yarbrough and husband, Mark of Albuquerque; grandson, Jake Yarbrough and wife, Lynita of Ft. Worth, TX; granddaughter, Emily Yarbrough and fiance, Thomas Smith of Denver, CO; sister-in-law, Alline Pool of San Antonio, TX; and a great-grandchild expected in July. His parents, Archie and Jeffie Pool and a brother, Archie Hoyt Pool, preceded Mr. Pool in death. Mr. Pool was born on June 10, 1919 in Lorenzo, TX. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and had served as an elder and a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Pool was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Army. Lloyd will be remembered for his honesty, humor, and loving nature. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 5, 2000 at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, with Dr. Paul R. Debenport and Rev. Carl Soderberg, officiating. Private interment of the cremated remains will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
