Moya -- Esther M. Moya, 81, died peacefully January 30, 2001 at Lovelace Hospital.¯ She came to New Mexico in 1980 from Lowellville, Ohio, where she was born in 1919.¯ Esther was a devoted and valued volunteer at Menaul School where she met and married Gustavo Moya.¯ She had been an active member of her church and will be deeply missed by her closest sisters Dorothy and Dolores Romero and many others.¯ She is survived by her daughter Pie Dumas of Greenwich, CT; only surviving sibling Ruth Merz Tobler, and niece Rosie Hinnebusch both of Sarasota, FL.. Esther has one granddaughter, and two grandchildren in Columbus, Ohio, and various nieces and nephews.¯ Memorial services will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, February 3, 2001 at Exalting Jesus Fellowship, 436 Pennsylvania NE. Power -- Ruth Cecilia Power, 87, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, January 26, 2001. She was born on April 3, 1913 in Boston, MA. She was the daughter of Daniel S. and Annie MacDonald. She graduated from St. Clement High School in West Somerville, MA. She studied at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA. Ruth was honored for her fifty years as a member of the Board of Registered Laboratory Technologist. She worked at the Veteran¯s Hospital in Bedford, MA, Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, MA and Lovelace Clinic in Albuquerque. Ruth was a member of the Women¯s Guild of Our Lady of Annunciation Church in Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald M. Power, and two children, Anthony Power and Eileen Power Davis. She is survived by her daughter, Anne¯Nancy Parsons and her husband, Aylmer, of Whitehouse Station, NJ; son, Donald A.M. Power and his wife, Vicki of Albuquerque; 11 grandchildren, Jackie Parsons Owen, Karen Parsons Penird, Tom Craig, and Stewart Parsons, Jonathan and Jessica Davis, Daniele Davis Donatelli, and Ian, Megan, and Kevin Power; and eight great-grandchildren. Friends may visit on Friday, February 2, 2001 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. N.E. followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be recited on Saturday, February 3, 2001, 9:00 a.m. at the Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas N.E. on the UNM campus. A Memorial Service and burial will take place in Gloucester, MA on Saturday, February 10, 2001. Rodgers -- Jesse Edwin Rodgers was called to his heavenly home on Sunday, January 28, 2001. He was born on May 12, 1913 in Arkansas, and moved to Loving, New Mexico in 1934. He worked as a farm laborer until he moved to Albuquerque in 1953. He worked as a house mover, and retired as a school custodian for APS in 1980. He was a member of Sandia Baptist Church. During his lifetime he read the Bible through several times. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Rodgers, and by his sister, Sibyl Faihtinger. He is survived by his wife, Opal Fern Morlan, whom he married in 1971; his brothers, Bill and wife, Della of Azle, TX, Benny and wife, Jean and Jim and wife, Pat, all of Albuquerque; eight nephews; and six nieces. Services will be held Thursday, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Dr. Bob Butler officiating. Private interment will take place. Sanchez -- Philbert (Phil) L. Sanchez, 41, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on January 29, 2001. Phil is survived by one son, Phillip L. Sanchez Jr. and Vanessa Pimintel; three daughters, Tiffany Sanchez and Freddie Sanchez, Brittany Sanchez and Selena Sanchez; a special companion, Michelle Trujillo; two sisters, Gloria Yund and husband Ted and Marcie Cordova and husband Larry; five brothers, Joe Sanchez and wife Marie D., Ramon Sanchez and wife Linda, Charlie Sanchez and wife Irene, Antonio Sanchez and wife Carolina and Victorino Sanchez and his son Sean; one grandson, Manuel Carlos Sanchez; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Phil, was a member of the Catholic Church, he was well known state wide for his herbal and spice business, he loved fishing and spending time in Colorado, loved cars and cooking. A Rosary will be recited Friday at 7:00 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW with visitation after 6:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10:00 at St. Anne Catholic Church with final viewing at the church after 9:30. Father Anthony Bolman, celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Joe Sanchez, Ramon Sanchez, Charlie Sanchez, Antonio Sanchez, Victorino Sanchez and A.C. Cordova. Thomas -- Bob Thomas, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, passed away at home on Monday, January 29, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Mary Thomas; daughters, Yvonne Bussell and husband, Dan and Jacque Mecham and husband, Steve; son, Mark Thomas and wife, Pam; grandchildren, Christopher and David Bussell, Amber and Ryan Mecham, and Eric Thomas and Amber Kirby; and by seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Emma Keesling, Mary Franchini and Teresa Sei and by brothers-in-law, Amerigo Sei, John Franchini and Frank Sanich. Bob was a veteran of World War II and retired from Sandia Labs. A Memorial Rosary will be recited Thursday, February 1, 2001, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming NE. Tippin -- Suella Tippin, 76, a 20-year resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001. She is survived by sons, Phillip G. Tippin and wife, Catherine Vennewitz of Minneapolis, MN, Curtis J. Tippin and wife, Christine of Boise, ID; grandchildren, Jesse Ray Tippin of Minneapolis, MN, Ciara Tippin and Courtney Tippin both of Boise, ID; sisters, Jackie Tirrell, Charlottesville, VA, Gloria James of Flagstaff, AZ, Kay Langston of Huntsville, AL and Jo Reid of Tucson, AZ. Mrs. Tippin loved cooking, throwing parties and fly fishing. She was an active wife of a military commander and a member of the retired widows association. Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2001, 2:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Welfl -- Roman E. Welfl, age 87, passed away Friday, January 26, 2001. Roman was born in Tabor, SD on October 10, 1913. He grew up in South Dakota, and served in the U.S. Army on a hospital ship from February 1943 until September 1945. He worked for the Federal Government with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Tuba City, AZ for 20 years. Mr. Welfl retired in 1977 and moved to Albuquerque, where he lived until moving to Florida in 1998. Mr. Welfl was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, after 41 years of marriage. Survivors include his niece, Kay Dent and husband, Troy of Shalimar, FL; and nephew, Lewis Osborn and wife, Marcia of Phoenix, AZ. Mr. Welfl is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Whitworth -- Herman Whitworth, age 81, died Monday , January 29, 2001 at the Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. Herman was born on November 27, 1919 in Terrell, TX to Myrtie and Oscar Whitworth. Mr. Whitworth grew up at Red Oak, TX near Terrell where he was born. He moved to Portales with his parents when he was 14 years old. He played football in high school and graduated in 1938. Immediately following high school he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Seabees, and was stationed on Guam throughout World War II. After his discharge, he returned to Portales, and worked at the local Penney's Store. He also served on the Portales Fire Department. J.C. Penney's eventually transferred him to first to Clovis, and then to Midland, TX. In early 1960's he returned to Portales, and he and his brother, Oscar, purchased the local Dunlaps store. In Wheeler, TX and later in Wichita Falls, TX. He eventually moved to Albuquerque where he opened a dress shop. He later expanded in the Albuquerque area, eventually owned and operated 27 ladies' dress shops around the state of New Mexico. In the early 1980's, he sold the dress stores, and took a contract delivering medicine to hospitals in New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona. He sold that business and retired about 1990. In Albuquerque on May 2, 1997, he was married to Beneta Sinclair. They lived in Albuquerque until 1998, when they moved to Dewey, AZ. In August of 1999 they moved to California where his wife's daughter lived, but in December of that same year they returned to Portales to make their home. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clovis, as well as the Order of Elks and also of both the American Legion and the V.F.W. Post 3299 in Portales. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. Herman is survived by his wife, Beneta Whitworth of Portales; three daughters, and sons-in-law, Linda and Hossein Kianfar of Albuquerque, Martha and Jim Fox of Olathe, KS and Peggy and Jeff Butler of San Juan Capistrano, CA; one brother, Oscar Whitworth, Jr. of Portales; one sister, Bertie Ruth Heflin of Terrell, TX; five grandchildren, Jason Fox of Olathe, KS, Brittney and Jr. Montoya of Colorado Springs, CO, Keivon Kianfar of Albuquerque and Hayden and Jarrod Butler both of San Juan Capistrano, CA; two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Ryan Montoya both of Colorado Springs, CO. A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2001 at the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales, Rev. Farrell Odom, will officiate assisted by Dr. Steve McElroy, Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Clovis. Burial will take place at Portales Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Stone, Don Davis, Jake Lopez, Marshall Stinnett, Don Shafer, Charlie Dobbs and David L. Richards. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Robbs, Boley Sullivan and Jack Bates, as well as all of his other good friends. Adams -- Michael D. Adams, Jr., an Albuquerque resident since 1950, died Monday, January 29, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Nora C. Adams of Albuquerque; son, James P. Adams of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Tracy Adams of St. Louis, MO and Tyra Lane of Missoula, MT; great-granddaughter, Alana A. Adams of St. Louis, MO; brothers, Elmer Adams of Highlands Ranch, CO and Frank Adams of Princeton, WV; sisters, Sophie Adams of Highlands Ranch, CO, Margaret Carter of Victorville, CA, Elizabeth Kovach of Reynoldsburg, OH, Julia Suza of Ansonia, CT and Dorothy Sexton of Hampton, VA. He was preceded in death by a son, Capt. Michael Thomas Adams (NMANG). Mr. Adams was a US Navy veteran of WWII and was retired from Sandia National Labs as a security guard with 26 years service. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 1, 2001 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 11515 Lomas Blvd, NE with Rev. Milton Jensen, officiating. Interment of the cremains will take place at a later date at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. Baca -- Paul Raymond Baca, Jr., 44, Born to Pablo and Esther Baca February 17, 1956 passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 28, 2001. Paul is survived by his wife, Nancy Baca; sons, Steven and Paul Baca; and daughter, Kristin Baca; his mother, Esther Baca. He was preceeded in death by his Father, Pablo Baca. Surviving Brothers, Chris and Anthony Baca; sister, Irene Baca. Paul was a Vietnam Veteran, who proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp 1974-1978.
