Gutierrez -- Ramon Gutierrez-Domingo peacefully passed into Heaven on June 28, 2001. At the time of his death, loving members of his family surrounded him. He was born to Eligio and Tedorita Perea Gutierrez on January 11, 1908 in Duran, New Mexico. His wife, Alicia, his son Antonio, and son-in-law, Albert Snider, preceded him in death. Mr. Gutierrez retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad where he served as a railroad car inspector. He and his family lived for many years in Vaughn, Dawson, Tucumcari, Belen and most recently Las Cruces, New Mexico. A lifelong Catholic, Mr. Gutierrez was a member of Our Lady of Purification in Las Cruces and Our Lady of Belen Parish in Belen, New Mexico. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Sacred Heart League St. Joseph's Society, the Holy Name and the Blessed Sacrament. He was also a member of the Belen Elks Club. He is survived by his children, Eligio Gutierrez and wife, Marie of Phoenix, Arizona, Raymond Gutierrez and wife, Mary Lee of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Joseph Gutierrez and wife, Rosalie of Petaluma, California, David Gutierrez of Belen, New Mexico, Albert Gutierrez and wife, Mary of Grants, New Mexico, Carmen Chavez and husband, Herk of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Connie Silva and husband, Alfonso of San Leandro, California, Mary Alice Snider of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Patricia A. Madrid and husband, Tito of Albuquerque and daughter-in-law, Grace Gutierrez of Las Vegas, New Mexico. He is also survived by 32 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, July 6, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Gutierrez's name to the American Cancer Society. Baca Funeral Chapels in Las Cruces, New Mexico in charge of arrangements.

Montoya -- Susan J. Montoya, age 46, passed away June 29, 2001 at a local hospital. She was born January 8, 1955. She is survived by her parents, Anselmo J. Montoya and Margaret C. Montoya of Albuquerque; one brother, Arthur P. Montoya of Flagstaff; several aunts and uncles; and many loving cousins and friends. She was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. She worked for many years at UNM Hospital as a nurses's assistant. She enjoyed helping those with disabilities and later worked for Res-Care in Albuquerque from which she retired in 1996. Rosary was recited Monday, July 2, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. in the Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Home, 3113 Carlisle NE. The Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Johnny Lee Chavez, Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. at the Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and interment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Manual Montoya, Joseph Chavez, Robert McKnight, Robert Chavez, Phillip Chavez, and Rodney McKnight. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Montoya, Robert Velarde, Louis Sandoval and Lewis Sisneros. The arrangements for Susan Montoya are under the direction of the Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Home.

Purcella -- Johnny D. Purcella passed away suddenly at his Mountainair ranch where he loved to be, on June 30th at the age of 55. He was a Vietnam Veteran, earning the Purple Heart and discharged with honorable mentions. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bernice Purcella and sister, Lenora Chavez. He is survived by his wife, Rose Purcella; son, Joe Juan Purcella; grandchildren, Chantel and Joe Juan Jr.; and four sisters, Josie Mills and husband, Richard, Melva Garcia and husband, Fred, Lucille Sanchez and husband, Tom, and Stella Benavidez and husband, Rudy. A Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension. Burial will follow at the Los Padillas Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Schmidt, Henry Sanchez, Rudy Purcella, Alex Tafoya Sr., Frank Cruz and Paul Lucero. Ortiz -- Edna Ortiz, 65, Our Most Precious Beloved Mother, has gone to rest June 27, 2001. She was born July 13, 1935 in Santa Fe, NM., where she lived most of her life. Edna was preceded in death by her mother, Tomasita Padilla; adopted mother, Amanda Cordova; husband, Pedro Ortiz Sr.; sons, Paul Ortiz, Leroy Ortiz, and Johnny Isaac Ortiz. Romero -- Frank T. Romero, 87, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001. Frank married his wife Ann on October 26, 1950. He served in Africa during WWII with the U.S. Calvary, Company B, 766th M.P. Battalion. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Nickelson -- Doris Leora Nickelson, 75, a resident of Los Chavez, NM peacefully passed away after an extended illness on Wednesday, June 27, 2001. Doris was a member of the Valencia County Cooperative Extension Homemaker (currently named Family and Community Education) since 1990, serving as chairperson for two years; Superintendent of Needlework with the Valencia County Fair between the years of 1993 - 1996; American Sewing Guide member since 1996, forming a neighborhood chapter; Breakfast Optimist Club of Belen member since 1999, and Co-Wagonmaster of the Chuckwagon. Doris was awarded Optimist of the Year for 2000. She served as Board Member for the Socorro County Senior Citizens program between the years of 1982 - 1988, serving as President and Treasurer at various times; and a member of the 200 & 600 Women's International Bowling Conference and State Champion Scratch team in 1967 - 1977. She is preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Cora Goodgame. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Loyd of the family home; four children, Monicarol Nickelson of CA and formerly of Newton, Kansas, Jeffery of Los Chavez, Gregory of AZ, and Timothy of Utah; five loving grandchildren, Tamara White, Scott Nickelson, Amanda Wilcken, Tyler Nickelson, and Evan Walker; two great-grandchildren, Bethany and Eliza Wilcken; and one brother, Leonard Franklin Goodgame, of WA. Cremation has taken place with a Visitation on Saturday, 10:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at Romero Funeral Home followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. Romero Funeral Home, Belen, NM.

Rivera -- Alfredo Luciano Rivera, age 49, died June 26, 2001 in Santa Rosa as a result of a motor vehicle accident while delivering a truck load of cement. Alfredo was born March 10, 1952 in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Max G. and Dora Moreno Rivera. He was reared in Santa Rosa and graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1970. He married Yolanda Barela on October 16, 1971 in Fort Sumner, NM. Alfredo was working for his brother, Robert Rivera as Plant Manager for RER Redi Mix in Santa Rosa. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 5146. Alfredo loved ranching and feeding cattle with his father, Max and enjoyed playing with his grandson, Diego. Alfredo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend and will truly be missed by all. Survivors include his wife, Yolanda Rivera of the family home in Santa Rosa; his son, Joaquin Rivera and wife, Paulette of Tijeras; his daughter, Maxine Rivera of Santa Rosa; grandson, Diego Rivera of Santa Rosa; parents, Max and Dora Rivera of Santa Rosa; brothers, Max Rivera and wife, Patricia of Albuquerque, Robert Rivera and wife, Ida of Santa Rosa; and sister, Cathy Apodaca and husband, Anthony of Los Lunas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Transita Santillanes and husband, Mike of Denver, CO, Abran Barela of Yokum, WA, Isabel Lopez of Albuquerque, Lucy Rael of Albuquerque, Connie Campos and husband, Jerry of Santa Rosa and Bridget Anaya of Tucumcari. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, coworkers and a host of friends. Rosary Services will be conducted on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church in Santa Rosa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. also from St. Rose Church with Father Stephen Schultz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers are Tito Vigil, Tito Romero, Jerry Campos, Andrew Sanchez, Pete Cordova, Mike Santillanes, Sam Lopez, Matthew Barela and Max Velasquez. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Alfredo's coworkers from the Robert Rivera Construction Company. Aragon -- Mr. Leroy R. Aragon died Tuesday, June 26, 2001 in Albuquerque at the age of 53. Mr. Aragon is survived by his sons, Delfy Aragon, Steve A. Aragon, Jeffery Aragon and Gary Aragon; brothers, Arthur Aragon and Paul Aragon; sisters, Yolanda Aragon, Elizabeth Chavez-Aragon; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral Services for Mr. Aragon will be held on Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery.
