Brake -- Betty McKim Brake, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1955, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, of complications from heart disease. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Brake, Jr. and her parents, Frank and Anna McKim. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth and Mary Brake of Chicago, IL, and Susan Brake of Albuquerque; son, William Brake and wife, Lynda of Corrales, NM; sister, Lee Brown and husband, Richmond of Central Lake, MI and grandchildren, Terrance and Teressa Brake and Jonathan and Joshua Kern. Betty was born in Gallup, NM and was valedictorian of Gallup High School. She received an AS degree from Stephens College in Columbia, MO and a BS degree in Chemistry from the University of Chicago. Betty was one of the first female members of the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories, where she worked from 1955 until 1985. Services will be held Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to a favorite educational charity. Cdebaca -- Mr. Arsenio CdeBaca, 75, of Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 19, 2001 with his beloved family by his side. Mr. CdeBaca is survived by his cherished wife of more than 49 years, Carmen; four sons, Larry CdeBaca and wife, Amy, Anthony CdeBaca and wife, Melody, Michael CdeBaca and wife, Ingrid and Gene CdeBaca and partner, David; four grandchildren, Jeff, Anthony, Taylor and Ashley; four step-grandchildren, Elyse, Kate, Betsey and Nick; great-grandson, Dakota; step-great-grandson, Omar; brother, Leroy CdeBaca and wife, Anne; sister, Marie CdeBaca; brother-in-law, Max O.Trujillo; sister-in-law, Patsy Roybal; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Born and raised in Las Vegas, NM, Mr. CdeBaca was preceded in death by his father, Arsenio V. CdeBaca; and mother, Lucy Guerin CdeBaca. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. After completing active duty, he was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves and the National Guard. He graduated from New Mexico State University in 1958 where he was a member of the Engineering Cooperative Education program working at White Sands Missile Range, and received his degree in Electronic Engineering. Following graduation he continued to work for White Sands Missile Range, and his family made Las Cruces their home. In 1961, he took a position with New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM where he was an instructor for the School of Technical Electronics. The following year he moved his family to Albuquerque to work for Kirtland Special Weapons Center, where he retired in 1981. During retirement, he enjoyed golfing with his lifelong friends and traveling with his wife. He was a member of Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church in Albuquerque and a member of American Legion Post #13. Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, 12:30 p.m., at Gate of Heaven Cemetery & Mausoleum Chapel, 7500 Paseo Del Norte NE. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

Crandall -- Challis Cody Crandall, 24, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque died, Wednesday, July 18, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Erica Crandall; daughter, Ashley Crandall; son, Cody Crandall; parents, Chet and Jeanette Crandall of Albuquerque; sisters, Chantelle and Candi and husband, Leo; grandparents, Fred and Gloria Crandall of Albuquerque and Doug and Carol Pilling of Wyoming; and numerous aunts and uncles. He was a terrific husband and a wonderful father to his children. Challis was a proud owner of a Concrete business of Albuquerque. Services will be held Monday, 11:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1100 Montano Rd. NW with Bishop Jeffrey Payne of the Volcano Cliffs Ward officiating. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menual Blvd. NE. Crews -- Charlie E. Crews Jr., age 60, a resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2001 at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in Childress, Texas on July 20, 1940. He was a graduate of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. He moved to Las Vegas, New Mexico in 1949. He was Chairman and Stockholder of the First National Bank of Las Vegas, New Mexico, Rancher, Real Estate Appraiser (Charlie E. Crews and Associates), and he worked with the Sears Catalog Store and Charlton Insurance Company. A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and member of the Las Vegas Board of Realtors. He served on the Board of Trustees at the Northeastern Regional Hospital and member of the Pendaries Golf Association. He is preceded in death by his father: Charles E. Crews in 1964. Survivors include Dolores Rudolph of Las Vegas, NM; Mother: Helen Crews of Las Vegas, NM and Lubbock, Texas; two sons, Brian Crews of Lubbock, Texas and Charles Crews of Ruidoso, NM; sister, Carol Covington and husband, Sam of Lubbock, Texas and two grandchildren. Cremation will take place. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, July 23, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church with Father George Salazar as celebrant. Interment of the cremains will take place at a later date. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Heart Association, the Immaculate Conception Church or the First United Methodist Church of Las Vegas, NM. Fairman -- Frances P. Fairman, 76, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, July 19, 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Pamela M. Fairman and Martha A. Grant, both of Albuquerque; sons, Dale Fairman and wife, Robin of Marysville, WA, Brian P. Fairman of New Castle, CO and David S. Fairman of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Jessica M. Heil and husband, Mike of Las Cruces and Christina A. Grant; grandson, Nicholas I. Grant, both of Albuquerque; brother, Sisto Baca and wife, Laura of Tome; and sister, Priscilla Trujillo and husband, Joe of Denver, CO. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Luis C. and Martinita (Marques) Baca. She worked for the Bernalillo County Clerk for 15 years. Frances was a member of the Democratic Women and was very active in politics in the local and state level. She was a longtime member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, 10:00 a.m., at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 933 Arizona SE. Godlewski -- Beverly Godlewski, 73, a resident of Albuquerque since 1967, died Thursday, July 19, 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Terri Kroemer and husband, Rich of Des Moines, IA and Kashia Godlewski of Denver, CO; son, Tommy Godlewski and wife, Angela Valdez-Godlewski; granddaughter, Kelli Harrison and husband, Adam; great-grandchildren, Keith, Vincent and Corey Harrison, all of Albuquerque; and sister, Maxine Butler and husband, Lonnie of Cortland, NY. Mrs. Godlewski enjoyed crafts and was a baseball fan. She participated in bowling tournaments. Lee -- Virginia "Ginger" Lee, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1953, died Saturday, July 21, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Billee Jean Fain of Lexington, KY; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Byron Griffin and also her second husband, Jerry Lee, and two brothers and one sister. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park at a later date. Montez -- Richarda (Ricki) Garcia-Montez, 51, beloved and devoted mother and wife passed away on July 21, 2001. Ricki was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, she is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Richard Montes; two daughters, Kandace and Savannah Montes; one son, Derick Montes all of Albuquerque; mother and father, Richard and Kandy Garcia; three sisters, Lucille Maldonado, Gloria Giarratano, and Nadine Martinez all of Albuquerque; four brothers, Dan, Steve, Patrick, and Clarence Garcia all of Albuquerque. She worked at Sandia National Labs as an employee of L & M Technologies for a number of years. She was a friend and advocate of the deaf community. A rosary will be recited Tuesday July 24, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Funeral services will be Wednesday July 25, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery located at 1900 Edith Blvd. NE. Casket bearers will be Max Havelka, John Sanchez, Patrick Maldonado, Danny Garcia, Matthew Montes, and Ethan Zachary Montes. Honorary bearers will be Tony Maldonado and Adam Dealoe. Ricki requested that people wear bright clothing to these services in celebration of her life. Loved by many, cherished by family and friends, she will never be forgotten. Rivera -- Pete D. Rivera, 66, died on July 19, 2001 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Liz Rivera; daughters, Alice Hurst and husband, Barry of Albuquerque, Patti Robison and husband, Tom of Chandler, AZ; son, Tom Rivera and wife, Susan of Zimmerman, MN; five grandchildren Brandon, Aaron, Joey, Sheri and Ian. He is survived by his mother, Beatrice Martinez of Denver, CO; three brothers and five sisters; childhood friends Candi and Joe "Lori" Martinez. Pete retired from the U.S. Navy in 1970. He began Albuquerque business Plastic Supply & Fabrication in 1976. A rosary will be held on Monday, July 23 at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Community Church located at 12500 Carmel Ave. NE, with Father Antonio Mondragon as Celebrant. Burial to follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Shell -- Thelma Mae Shell, age 78, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2001, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born January 6, 1923 in Rincona, NM to the late George Lee and Myrtle Canon. She is survived by one step daughter, Joyce Ann and husband, Ralph Combs, Gratis, Ohio; one son, David F. and wife, Maye Ehret, Lubbock, Texas; three sisters, Ruth Dobyns, Bencia, CA, Margaret Causey, Zachary, LA, Wyona and husband, Bob Noel, Tularosa, NM; two brothers, Donald Eugene and wife, Carol Canon, Caldwell, TX, Clay Carter Canon, Caldwell, TX, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five sisters and one brother. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Albuquerque. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 22, 2001 at the Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 23, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. in the Palm Chapel of the Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Pastor Randy Walquist will officiate and interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Arrangements for Thelma Shell are under the direction of the Strong-Thorne Mortuary.
