SADBERRY -- Sam Sadberry, 90, a resident of Albuquerque for many years, died on May 17, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Faye Sadberry of Albuquerque; five sons, Sam Sadberry, Jr., and wife, Joy of Flagstaff, AZ, Hugh F. Sadberry and wife, Carol of Phoenix, AZ, Jack Ross Sadberry and wife, Maxine of Bluewater Lake, NM, David Joe Sadberry and wife, Pam of Phoenix, AZ and Duane Sadberry and wife, Theresa of Gallup, NM; two daughters, Janeann Findley of Phoenix, AZ and Linda Lee-Broughton and husband, Wayne of Albuquerque. Sam is also survived by 28 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson; one sister, Mable Abel of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Sam was a member of Heights Church of Christ. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel with Dee Lancaster, officiating. SAIZ -- Mr. Eusivio T. Saiz, 78, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on May 16,2004. Mr. Saiz is the beloved husband of 52 years to Mrs. Lucille Saiz. Mr. Saiz is also survived by three daughters, Kathy Messer, Judy Gallegos and husband, Gilbert, Elizabeth Jacoby and husband, Dean; one son, Archie Saiz; a daughter in law, Robin Saiz; two sisters, Telesfora Sanchez and Nellie Gibbons; one brother, Jimmy Saiz and wife, Bruna; eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a special nephew, Orlando Saiz; many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Saiz was a member of the Catholic Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War I I. A visitation for Mr. Saiz will be Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont Ave. NE with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Ruben Barela. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be, Gilbert Gallegos, Michael Messer, Nathaniel Saiz, Jesse Jacoby, Jeremy Jacoby and Jason Jacoby. SICKELS -- Pearl Calvin "Tex" Sickels passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 16, 2004, at the age of 79, following a long and courageous battle with multiple illnesses. He was born and raised on an Ohio farm during the depression. As a young man he competed on the rodeo circuit in Texas, which is how he got the nickname he carried all of his adult life. Enlisting in the Army during the Korean War, he retired after a distinguished 28 year career, including service in Vietnam, as a Master Sergeant. During a tour of duty in Germany, he met and married Hildegard, his wife of 50 years. After relocating to Albuquerque in 1979, he began a second career in education and retired from APS in 1992. He is survived by his wife, Hildegard; daughter, Pauline Ansell and husband, David, two grandsons, David Jr. and Chris, all of Albuquerque; daughter, Rosalinda Sickels and fiance, Mark Pawlak of Machesney Park, IL; and sister, Annie Freeman of Franklin, KY. A celebration of his life will be held at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, May 20, 2004. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. SPOOR -- Mark A. Spoor, 45, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, May 16, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Spoor of Albuquerque; daughters, Krista Bennett and husband, Trevor of Albuquerque, Misty Spoor of Albuquerque; mother and step-father, Dottie and Barry Taschner of Scottsdale, AZ, step-mother, Carmen Spoor of Albuquerque; sisters, Robin Grandis of Scottsdale, AZ and Julie Cline of Albuquerque; brother, Joel Cline of Arizona; granddaughters, Morgan and Aspen Bennett of Albuquerque. Mark was co-owner of M & G Enterprises and a member of Promise Community Church. WALLS -- June P. Walls, age 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1978, died on Saturday, May 15, 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Barton and husband, Cary, of Albuquerque; two sons, Glenn Wood, Gary Wood and wife, Susan, of Texas; two brothers, Geoffrey Parr and Bryan Parr, of England; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and a very dear friend, Louise Christopherson. June was a British war bride and came to the USA in 1947. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1500 Chelwood Blvd. NE. ABBIN -- Thomas John Abbin, Sr., 60, a life long resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, May 16, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Lonnie Abbin of Albuquerque; daughters, Barbara Abbin and Brenda Repichowski and husband, Joe of Albuquerque; son, Tommy Abbin and wife, Dianne of Rio Rancho; five grandchildren, and a brother, Joe Abbin of Albuquerque. Tom was a graduate of St. Pius X High School, class of 1962. He was an award winning retail store manager for Piggly Wiggly and later a top salesman for the McCormick Company. "Smiling Tom" as he was often called, was a hard working, dedicated family man who inspired trust and confidence in his family, friends and co-workers. ANAYA -- Valentin "Tiny" Anaya, 63, passed away at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque, NM on Friday, May 14, 2004 following an automobile accident. Tiny was born August 3, 1940 to Felipe and Maria Eslinda (Gonzales) Anaya in Socorro, NM. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Yvonne (Gallegos) Anaya of their home in Socorro; children: Valentin Jr. and wife, Gloria and their daughter, Elena; Sefie and fiance, Talitha; Manuel and wife, Magdalene and their three children, Julia, Manuel and Isaiah; and his only daughter, Eslinda; six brothers and three sisters and their families also survive him. Tiny dedicated his life in service to his Church and community. A devout Catholic, he served as an usher for the Old San Miguel Mission much of his adult life. A career public servant, he served as City Clerk for the City of Socorro under Mayor Tony Jaramilllo for many terms. Tiny was the Civil Defense Officer for Socorro County and most recently, he was serving his second term as Socorro County Assessor. He will be remembered most for his advocacy for the people of Socorro County, whether it be on a one-to-one basis, helping City or County employees with job concerns or lobbying in Santa Fe for any issue that would better the community. He was well known and well respected in Santa Fe, especially with his long-time friend, Governor Bill Richardson. Tiny touched many lives, as witnessed by the literally thousands of well wishers that have visited the family. He died just as he lived, on duty and in service to the people of Socorro County. A Rosary was recited on Monday, May 17, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at the Old San Miguel Mission, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro, NM. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at San Miguel with Father John C. Daniel as Celebrant. Burial will be in the San Miguel Cemetery. Pallbearers are his brothers: Paul Anaya, Louis Anaya, Phillip Anaya, Narciso Anaya, Gilbert Anaya and Leroy Anaya. BACA -- Frank S. Baca, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on May 16, 2004, at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife, Rose G. Baca, with whom he had 63 years of marriage; his children, Rick Baca, (Edie), Patrick Baca, (Lupe), Johnny Baca, (Betty), and Victoria Paulos; his brother, Willy Baca, and twelve grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Boo-Boo. Frank retired from the Bureau of Reclamation after thirty years of service. He was an avid dancer and enjoyed playing the accordion. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at San Felipe De Neri Catholic Church, Old Town Albuquerque, on Wednesday, May 19, 2004. BETTS -- Katherine E. Betts; 91 passed away at a local hospital on Sunday, May 16, 2004. Katherine a long time resident of Albuquerque is preceded in death by her husband, Ervin O. Betts and one grandchild, Patrick. Mrs. Betts is survived by her daughter, Norma Jean Whalen of Leesberg, Fl.; and son, Ervin Betts of Westport, Conn.; grandchildren, Tim Betts, Tim Whalen, Anna Louise Whalen, Emily Whalen-Wells, Kevin Whalen and Andrew Betts; great- grandchildren, Blair and Zoey Betts, Michaela Whalen, and Cambria and Max Wells. Katherine was a member of the First Christian Science Church. Mrs. Betts was an administrative assistant with the U. S. Navy in Rhode Island. Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Albuquerque Animal Shelter. BRYAN -- Captain George R.Bryan,Jr. USN, 83, passed away quietly on Tuesday May 11, 2004. George was born and raised in Cleveland,Ohio. He spent the last 32 years of his life as a resident of Albuquerque. He was proceded in death by his mother and father, Hazel and George Bryan Sr., and by his brothers, Jack and Dick and his sister, Betty. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jeanne Bryan; sons, Pat and Bill Bryan; daughter, Kathy Baldwin; and his grandson, Michael Baldwin. George attended Ohio University and the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD. He served his country as a naval officer for more than 30 years, seeing combat in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. More importantly, he served his fellow man everyday of his life - always giving far more than he took. There were no clouds in George's world - only silver linings. Every single person whose life was touched by George was better for that experience, from young sailors under his command to the countless charitable endeavors that he undertook to the widows at his church that he took grocery shopping. Devoted Catholic, father and husband, humanitarian, avid baseball fan, spinner of Irish jokes and stories, and purveyor of human joy, George would ask that we not grieve his passing but that we celebrate his life by helping others everyday of our own lives. Come visit George and say goodbye on Tuesday, May 18th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald and Sons Funeral Home, 3113 Carlisle NE. We will all share a favorite story about George at the funeral home and then adjourn to celebrate his life with an Irish wake at his son Pat's home, 2305 Calle De Real NW.
